Funny teaser and since it is funny it should be in trick instead of logic. Good one anyway.
Good joke. I'd decided an 8 gallon cask filled with something heavy could be dropped in, displace the water and then removed. On the wHOLE your way is easier. 
I agree with froggy - should be in the trick category.
you could also say it already has 12 galons, plus 8 more so you don't have to do anything
