Brain Teasers
Milwaukee Express
A steam engine is traveling in a straight line from Detroit to Milwaukee, which is a distance of 250 miles. The train is traveling at 125mph due west, but there is a headwind of 10mph coming from the northwest. How long will it take the train to reach its destination?
Answer
The train will never reach Milwaukee because if it is traveling in a straight line, it will fall into Lake Michigan.Hide Answer Show Answer

I really liked your riddle because you made it sound like a math problem but it was really common sense, I like it. I was lol when I read the answer.
This is going to be an extra credit problem for the elementary school kids I tutor.
this riddle was really cool I can give it to my World Geography teacher to see if he can get it. He is so dumb he probably won't though.lol.
It doesn't say that it continues to travel due West for the entire journey. It says that it is traveling from 1 city to the other.
This is a good teaser but what if somebody's from canada, like me, and doesn't get it?
Yeah the riddle needs to say that the train goes in a straight line but I still think that it's a very good teaser.
c'mon now, unklemyke, this is why it's in the TRICK teaser category. how about this one: how long would it take a train to travel in a straight line from Tokyo to Seoul? better?
you know unklemyke that was a mean comment.. I think anyone who has the nerve to put a riddle on here of any kind at least deserves some kind of good credit from all.. If you don't like it just don't comment on it.. If you didn't like it then you could of just stopped reading it and went on to the next one..By the way its WON'T go there not don't go there.. for someone as smart as you are I think you would know
that ... I think it was a good teaser!!
that ... I think it was a good teaser!!
Nice!
I have to agree, everyone assumes there would be a bridge. A good trick riddle covers all its bases.
That train went right on by me and into the water!!! I'm sitting here trying to figure out the math when it was completely irrelevant........
I might have gotten it, but I'm terrible at geography. Good one, though!
If you don't like the teaser, and don't have a CONSTRUCTIVE critisizm, then SHUT UP ... I thought it was GOOD
And better yet, if you think you are so hot at 'weeding out bad teasers' why aren't you an editor???
Huh? Huh? Huh?

I got it because I live less than an hour South of milwaukee and close to lake Michigan And it is a TRICK teaser!
Do you all realize you are ripping on a teaser submitted by the inventor of this site?!?

not being from america i had no idea that it would fall into a lake, though i did assume (since it's in the trick category) that it wouldn't make it to it's destination - i decided that milwalke (or however it's spelt) isn't west of detroit
I thought the headwind was the bit to throw you off, because it will still be travelling at the same speed. It got me, but I dont know a great deal of geography
Very tricky! Luckily, I'm better with Geography then math...
I'm from NZ so I had no idea. But good one anyway!
cool, very, VERY funny!
I just figured it was driving over a bridge. It was clicking in my mind that there was water but not why, and that there should've been a bridge.
I'm from the USA and I didn't get it! I live in the South so I don't really know that much about the Great Lakes!
Very Fun!
Very funny...nice one!
Haha! I'm awesome at math, so at first I didn't get the answer! I was like "What the heck, I did all the math! That can't be right!" and then I realized this was the TRICK category..hehe. Silly me.
You stated it was going to Miliwaukee, therefore there must be a bridge, else the teaser is false from the pretense alone.
lol, i completely forgot about the Great Lakes...couldn't it just keep goin underwater? lol
i just ignored the headwind tho, cuz i figured it wouldn't affect a steam engine....that's what i thot the trick was...

Aha!! You got me on this one, I even knew I was in the trick csategory so I threw out all the logic bu doing the math and googled it, still did not think about the obvious, lol!!! Fun!!
Good teaser but very easy for someone who lives right next to Milwaukee.
This one is more for people who know their geography...
Sweeet!!!! I got it right away!
HAHAHA
