Half Of 13...
How can half of 12 be equal to half of 13?
Hint
What time is it?Answer
On a standard digital watch, each of the numbers 12 and 13 contain 7 lines, thus 1/2 * 12 ( 3.5 ) is equal to 1/2 * 13 (3.5) .Note that the upper half of 13 and the upper half of 12 are identical.

So what do you say?
Per votes i see that this is one of the great teasers but i would like your opinions.

Well, you wanted a comment. I would never have thought of your answer, but I have an alternate answer that I believe would also work. I just discarded half the digits (the 2 and the 3), leaving 1 = 1.
huh half of 12 is 6 and half of 13 is 6.5!!!!!!!!!!!!

excellent alternative answer that one
Cnme, that is a classic answer... I think readers need something new.
good but impossible to answer
No, it's not one of the great teasers, just one of the most obscure. A simpler answer is that half of twelve is equal to half of thirteen when you round down to the nearest whole number - an equally unsatisfying answer. - I think this one goes into the "Try Again" category
UnkleMyke, i will keep that comment in mind next time i submitt a new teaser, but don't you think that it's toooooo weird having you submitting none of your teasers, and commenting serious comments on others
really good but i dont think its as difficult as the rating proves
Thanx Trojan
I think it was a really good idea, the digital watch thing.
You do too much bragging!
Bear this is a Trick!
Thanx

easy... just round down
nice 1
I would think that this teaser would go in one of the upper Brain Teaser's list. It definantly stumped me. But I would think it would go in a different category. Good job though!
Ok, that solution still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, so I propose an alternative solution: Bakers often added an extra donut to the box when customers bought 12...what is commonly known as a "baker's dozen". Therefore, when 13 is a baker's dozen, it's really 12 with one more to "sweeten" the deal...and half of 12 is 6. ;-)
i would have never thought of this answer!!! kinda confuzing but obviously a slick one
Stumped me! Cool
dont care what everyone else says. i didnt get it, but it was really good. required thinking about a different thing to get the answer-good stuff
I think you are full of crap!
pretty hard,but very boring on the scale of 1-10 i would give it a 3.9
lame

Uh.....that was.......interesting.......
What???!!! That didn't make any sense whatsoever! Where did you come up with that?

I think a better answer is that if you assume "12" is a base 10 number, and "13" is a base 9 number (equal to 12 in base 10), then 1/2 of either number would be "6".
When I looked at the hint "what time is it" I thought of military time - half past 120 would be 30 minutes after the hour. And half past 130 would also be 30 minutes after the hour. Therefore, they are both equal - 30 minutes after the hour of 120 and 130. Sounds confusing but my military hubby agreed to my calculations and logic.
By the way, I obviously did not come up with the answer stated.

Potato is not the only one... I don't understand the whole watch thing. but it's good. and it's a stumper. i'll be looking for more like this!!!
Thanks all
Half of a dozen =6, And half of a baker's dozen is also 6. Though baker's dozen has 13 in it, a half of it is always considered 6.
i wanted it to be how can half of 13 be equal to have of 14, because then i could have answered "teen" (thirTEEN and fourTEEN). (15 and 16 also work)
I agree with froggygg. that was the answer I thought of.
I can't imagine ANYONE thinking of the answer you gave.
I can't imagine ANYONE thinking of the answer you gave.
I agree with cnmne. I would have never gotten that one. I was thinking more along with the discarding of the 2 & 3 leaving the common 1
IT REALLY ISN'T MADE OUT AS DIFFICULT AS ALL OF YOU ARE MAKING IT OUT TO SEEM, ESPECIALLY ONCE THE ANSWER IS GIVEN. HE SAYS THINK OF A DIGITAL CLOCK ,RIGHT, WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE EXACT NUMBERS. SO THINKING OF SEEING 12 AND 13 IN THE MINUTES OF THE DIGITAL CLOCK THE STICKS(PER SAY) THAT MAKE IT UP THE NUMBERS ADDS UP TO 7 WHOLE STICKS AND HALF OF 7 IS 3.5. SO, THIS IS THE WAY THAT I ENVISION IT GOING AND HOW THIS WOULD MAKE SENSE.
When I saw the hint, I thought of an analog clock and I was like "Whaaaat?"
I thought yours was a really weird answer, even for a trick.... I was thinking half a dozen and half a baker's dozen. But even in a trick, you can't equate a number of lines from 2 different numbers...
I thought the answer was: When 12 and 13 is a dozen;
12= dozen
13= bakers dozen
12= dozen
13= bakers dozen
I was going to say that half of 12 is 6 and half of 13 is 6.5 so 6 + .5 is half of 13...
LOL HARD MAN HARD
THAT DIDNT SOUND RIGHT LOL!
that was hard but the scary part was that I actually looked at the clock and it was 12:31
I so dit not get that, but everyone else has different ideas. I dunno! Even after I read the answer I still didn't get it! I think it definitely should have been in another category! I guess it was OK though.
wow uv really goten technical here. no offense to u but i dont like teasers that get all technical like that. but it was good!
I think this is a great teaser. You have to think a bit out the box, but why is that a bad thing?
I don't get it... Even after reading the answer, I don't understand how it makes sense. Could somebody please explain?
I was thinking because they're both half of a dozen.
