Brain Teasers
Shower Mistery
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A woman entered the local police station in hysterics. She proceeded to tell the policeman how that very morning, she'd been attacked.
"It was horrible. I'd just gotten out of the shower when I was attacked from behind. I freaked out but caught a glimpse of the man's face in the mirror. It was my ex-partner; I know it. Please arrest him, he's dangerous."
With that, the policeman replied, "Lady, you better get out of here before I throw you in jail for false accusations."
How did he know she was lying?

How did he know she was lying?
Answer
She'd just gotten out of the shower so her mirror would have been all misted up. Therefore she could not have seen anything in the mirror.Hide Answer Show Answer

Like the Commodores would say:"It's easy like Sunday morning"
Change the title Mistery to Mystery, I knew the answer before I read the text.

Another answer is she would have come in the MORNING, when it actually happend.
She could have been taking a cold shower, so the mirror wouldn't have steamed up
How could the policeman immediatly know that the shower was hot and it isn't ALWAYS steamy, but other than that, it's good.
If he came from behind,he would have been in the shower with her. She would have defenately seen him.
First of all...it's MYSTERY! The MIST part kind of gives it away. Also, the shower could have been a cold shower, or the woman could have a window open, and the window would not be steamy.
...the MIRROR would not be steamy...
She could have what i have in my bathroom, a fan that works automatically when u switch on the light to extract the steam from the bath or shower
1. If she was attacked "that very morning" she would come immediately after.
2.How did she escape, did she have any evidence that she was attackes, ie. bruises, scratches?. "She says she freaked out", If so, then how was she able to protect herself, or did the suspect flee?. Why would he attack in the first place, if he was going to flee?.
3.Even if she took a hot shower, but for 5min, the mirror wouldnt be steamy.
4. If she just got out of the shower wouldnt the suspect have to be right behind her, in the shower.

i've never had a shower so hot that it mists up a mirror in my life!! (apart from everything else, how am i supposed to comb my hair if i can't see my reflection in the mirror? and steam encourages mildew on the walls...)
Mirrors do steam up, mine does because I have no windows in my bathroom, but the answer I got was she was getting out of the shower how would the man be behind her.
I have a window in my bathroom, so the mirror never steams up... sorry, it doesn't necessarily work. I don't dare think a policeman would jump straight into that before asking her anything.
gah i dont like this teaser because as you've said- the mirrors arent ALWAYS steamed up
i didnt really like this one because she could have taken a cold shower, or the windows could have been open. way too many possibilities.
mirrors dont always steam up, but i still liked the quiz
The phrase "gotten out of the shower" usually means gotten out of the bathroom or finished a shower, not literally gotten out of the shower. I found it overly easy and inaccurate, though, because of the foggy mirror. And shouldn't this be in the mystery section?
it may have been a bit steamy but his face would still have been legible. Sorry for the nagging.
When I read this situation, my answer was completely different. I thought that she was lying because she was certain it was somebody else but they attacked her from behind. But then I read it again and understood. haha.
She could have left the door open, thus no steam.
The mirror isn't always misty after a bath.
