Brain Teasers
Desk Drawers
Group
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.Group
My desk has four drawers.
Two on the left, two on the right.
On the left side, in the upper drawer, there are among other things envelopes, stamps, a box of matches and some paper towels. A few of the things in the lower drawer are a letter opener, a few pencils, a small radio and an extension cord.
On the right side, in the upper drawer, you can find a nice ballpoint pen, a magnifying glass, a pair of scissors, and some empty 3.5" diskettes, whereas some of the contents of the lower drawer are a number of blank sheets of paper, a pair of knitted fingerless mittens, a packet of cookies (yum, cookies), and a copy of the Bible (with leather covers, very nice).
Can you figure out the pattern to how these items are arranged?

Hint
A few hints: The drawers are connected, in the sense that the connecting property of the upper left drawer is the opposite of the lower left drawer (eg, the property of one drawer could be that all the objects are green, and that none of the objects in the other are green), and likewise for the right side.An item may fit into more than one drawer, and in some cases it might be uncertain whether an item can go into a certain drawer (but the items described definitely go into their drawers
Also, the correlation between drawers is between each upper drawer and the one below it, not either of the others on the other side of the desk. An object in any given drawer only relates to what is above or below.
Answer
Objects are sorted into the drawers on the left side by how many times they can be used - things that are used a single time go in the upper drawer, while things that can be used many times go in the lower drawer. On the right side, objects are divided into things that were once part of something living, in the lower drawer, while those objects that were always dead are placed in the upper drawer.

Boy, you had me stumped with this one. Very nice, I couldn't have gotten it for beans!
hard
Really? I thought it was rather easy.
After reading the hint, I got the left side.
First off, I'll admit I'm a hard grader on this site. Over half the puzzles I rate get Boring/Easy.
I gave this one Fun/Hard. I find it thoughtful, though-provoking, and not too obvious even after the hints.
My only wish is that it was two separate puzzles in a series. Great work!
