Brain Teasers
Word Fusion 6
Each statement describes two words that when fused together create a new unrelated word (not a compound word). The clues do not necessarily indicate in which order the two words are attached. Example: This is the oldness of a tablet (pill + age = pillage).
1) This is a child of the ocean.
2) This is when an insect runs away to get married.
3) This is the monotone melody of a writing instrument.
4) This is the charge for setting a fractured bone.
1) This is a child of the ocean.
2) This is when an insect runs away to get married.
3) This is the monotone melody of a writing instrument.
4) This is the charge for setting a fractured bone.
Answer
1) sea + son = season2) ant + elope = antelope
3) pen + chant = penchant
4) cast + rate = castrate

this one confused me. i didn't like it.
I couldn't even begin to figure it out
I DIDN'T EVEN GET ONE OF THEM IT WAS HARD AND CONFUSING
Clever! Made me think -- but couldn't get the last one!
Nice one! Got the first two but struggled with the last two.
i liked it even if i didn't get one of them right
Interesting.
Got all but the last one which was the best (all were good!) Fine job
THESE R REALLY GREAT THE BEST ONES I HAVE READ SO FAR! KEEP EM, COMIN!
I thought the first one was infancy. I got the second and third, but the 4th one I thought was a little misleading. Very fun and good ones!
Cute. I did these when I was in school but the extra practice didn't help me much ! Oh well clever. good job, really makes you think.
I got the first one. That was really creative
Wow. I'm so bad at these teasers. The only ones I can solve are the mystery ones .
Anyways, good teaser. I, being stupid, couldn't solve it, but I guess that's the sign of a good teaser.

I was pretty stumped by this riddle. Although I think it is quite good, I think the words you used were not really similar like marriage and ocean. It wasnt very similar to elope or sea. Try finding out synonyms in either many words or one. Other than that, I'd think it is a fantastic riddle.
I like this one, keep them coming.
Haa, I liked it. First one I got waterboy though...
SourDough likes! Yessiree, $ourDough liked this one, indeed!

Nice Job....... keep 'em comin.
Fun clever teaser. Thanks for posting.
I got teensy for the first one, but I guess you don't spell sea sy. Si?
I got some of them, but when I went further down the page to see the rest, I accidently saw the answer, and that kind of ruined it. But a really good teaser.
Wow, I only got antelope. This was a tough one.
good one! i could only get antelope but they're all good (once i read and understood the answers, hehe)
Did anyne else get seeked for the first one? Sea + kid.
I got the first two right. But "penchant"? I don't normally think of a chant as ANY kind of melody, so that stumped me. And "castrate"? I don't normally think of castration at all.
Gee.
Good teaser.
Gee.
Good teaser.
Fun teaser. I only got antelope right, but I got the others half right. I'm with you, Fathead, I rarely think of castrate. I was trying fee or bill plus cast. Thanks
Only nearly got the first one, said "sea"-"son" in my head and didn't notice it was a word
I enjoyed this. Thank you.
thought the 1st one was "mermaid." Had a blonde moment with the last one. Even with the answer shown I didn't get for a few moments.
The definitions are very inaccurate. A fractured bone is not a cast and the charge is not a rate, but a fee. Child is very misleading. Boy child would have been much better. The clues need to be clearer.
I LIKE the concept of this type of puzzle, but I only got antelope I was way off on all the others! I'd like to try another one like this! Thanks! WinK
I also had infancy. Setting a bone is not a cast; it holds it in place after setting it. A chant has no melody. Charge and rate are very different things. Fee or bill would have worked though.
I got the first two immediately and the third with a moment's thought. The last doesn't really work; how does one get 'cast' from 'setting a fractured bone' ?
Fun! Got 2 of 'em!
Got ANT-ELOPE
But unfortunately:
SEA-KID
PEN-TONE
CAST-COST
But...it was FUN!

I got one also, but think instead of child it should have said "particular child." so we did not look for "tot" or some other definition of child. Number four is wrong also as a cast is not repairing a fractured bone. It is what is put on after a fractured bone has been treated. Just my opinion. Other wise a good teaser. At least the idea is good.
I enjoy this kind of puzzle, word games are my favourite type of teasers.
I was able to get antelope and season.
As others have said, cast is not setting a bone, but often used to hold the set bone in place until it fuses back together. There are many occasions when a cast is not used at all. There is no cast put on a nose or finger. My husband broke his femur so badly that he now has a metal rod running the length of the bone, putting a cast on after that was pointless.
Even though I enjoy Gregorian Chat, a chant is a far cry from a melody.
Still a great teaser. I just felt, as did others, that some of the clues were a bit of a stretch.

Not my bag. Only got 1.
1/4 ........antelope.
Like so many others, and even myself back in 2011, I still just answered "antelope" correctly. I still like the idea of this quiz, so please post some more!
I echo the thoughts of many others.
Tops for fun though!
Tops for fun though!
I'm with Gayle. Again, I only got antelope.
My answer for number 3 may be an interesting alternative. I came up with "Pendragon" (supreme leader), composed of course of "pen" and "drag on".
I got the first 2, the second 2 I just got half of the answers. They were fun to try to figure out though. I think the clues could have been a little clearer. I am going to try the previous ones and see if I do any better. This was my first try at this type of quiz. I enjoyed it.

It was an okay teaser, but there was a lot of confusion I only got pen - not even penchant. Oh well!
Everyone's problem with penchant seems to be that a chant doesn't have any melody at all... I understand the melody part, but chants aren't very monotone. Cool teaser, though!
Fun and entertaining teaser; I got three out of four. I thought of "cast" but could not get "rate". I was thinking "fee" or "bill".
