Gone Missing Right Under Your Nose!
Carrie, Olivia, Johnathan, Micheal, and Joel all went on a school camping trip. Due to rain, they couldn't sleep in tents, so they were led up to the camp dorms. When they were shown to their rooms, which were directly across from each other, they were told that lights out was in thirty minutes. After Carrie changed, she took out her favorite book and her laptop. She read until lights out, when she put her book on top of her laptop and went to sleep. She woke up the next morning to find her laptop gone! She ran over to Olivia and grabbed both her hands, then she started to shake her, to wake her up. Olivia's hand started to bleed and she explained that Carrie had opened a paper cut, even though Carrie had not seen a paper cut last night. Suddenly, they heard three sets of knocks and saw all three boys come in. She told them about her laptop until Johnathan changed the subject.
"Have either of you read that new novel about the detective's cat? Joel was just telling me about it."
"Um, yeah. It's a really good book. I read it all last night," said Joel to the girls.
Suddenly, Carrie yelled out, "Hey, I know who took my laptop! Hand it over, _____________!"
Who took Carrie's laptop and how did she know?

Who took Carrie's laptop and how did she know?
Answer
Joel took Carrie's laptop. He said that he had read a whole novel in one night. But since lights out was thirty minutes after they arrived, he wouldn't have had time to read the whole thing unless he turned the lights on. He read the book off of the Internet on Carrie's computer over the night.Hide Answer Show Answer

Deadeye823 thinks this is a good teaser!
sissy245 thanks deadeye823
pretty sweet but kinda ez but then i guess that 's good 4 me!
jolly good...
actually its not impossible to finish a book in half an hour since you did not mention the length of the book
i thought "novel" was enough... but that just might be me...
Very clever teaser! A joy to read....especially since I got it! lol
Little easy, but fun,
Great! I thought it was olivia coz she had a paper cut and i thought it might be from her book.
that was a good teaser
Good one!
they managed to get internet access?
i guessed it was joel and that he'd read by the light of the laptop.
however, i do have a few problems with this teaser, mainly beacuse the hints you have don't really relate to the laptop, they all relate to books.
and why couldnt joel have read the book by torch light? or broken the rules and turned the lights on? or read it once dawn broke and there was enough light? and how on earth was the book available online (this is screaming "copyright violation" at me)
...otherwise the idea was good...

Nice teaser, but am curious how a new book, which she has not finished can already be her favorite. Leads to believe they are talking about two different books.
sorry, i'm one of those people that read books over fifteen times, guess i need an "outsiders" opinion before i submit an original again...
I thought this was fun, but agree with the other poster who mentioned that Joel could've read by the light of the laptop, flashlight, etc. Plus, a new book coming out online isn't very realistic! I think the answer would be better if Joel just read the book by the light of the laptop and maybe earlier it could be mentioned that the boys forgot their batteries - that way they can't use flashlights.
Just thought...not that I have many of them.
Nice work

Nice work
very easy but fun...great job looking forward to more of the teasers u submit
nice
I thought it was Joel ok. But did not put it all together, Explanation of answer was enough, u got me, good teaser
i knew it was joel but u should say that he used the laptop light instead of reading it online just like other ppl said
Who's to say Joel didn't have his own laptop? Also, what is the point of stating that Olivia was bleeding from a paper cut? Maybe she got the paper book from lifting Carrie's book to steal the laptop?
not one of my favs, but good job nyways
I liked it sissy, keep going!
lol sissy i've only just noticed this is yours
Good one,keep them comin.
i thought it was Olivia at first cuz she had a paper cut and i thought it was from the book, but then i saw that Joel was stammering so it was pretty obvious, but good n e ways!
I've read many a book by flashlight in a sleeping bag but not one whole book on the net. I'm also kinda curious they couldn't sleep in tents because of the rain? that's what tents are for, that and insects. I've lived in tents for months at a time you might want to take that part out of your story it doesn't have anything to do with it but filler. Just make it they went to a cabin. Now I could be wrong I never went on a camping trip with a school so maybe that's what they do. In any case my money would have been on Olivia
whenever i go camping with school, we always get cabins. no tents ever. in fact, there are usually bathrooms in the cabins.
anyway, why would someone bring a laptop to school camp? wouldn't that not be allowed.

I thougt it was olivia because of the papercut.
ur t-zir iz nys
Got it! Ya I'm on a roll!
ummm half of this didnt even make sense...like weird things such as:
"She ran and grabbed her hands then she shook her and her hands began to bleed and she explained it was a paper cut that she hadnt noticed last night"
... wth?
or how she's saying to the boys that she has lost her laptop till one of them suddenly starts talking about a book? omg and as if you can even read books off the net! im sorry but sooooo much of this was just utter crap! and the riddle part wasnt even a riddle! thumbs down from me im afraid

I too felt Joel had used the light of the laptop and felt there should have been some mention of him not having a flashlight.
I don't know anyone who's gotten a paper cut from a book so I quickly eliminated her bunkmate.
The story didn't flow real well, but I appreciate your effort. Don't stop writing just because one mystery didn't get the highest marks. We still enjoyed it.

mudcake, you should really work on your constructive criticism. No need to be rude about it.
At first i was thinking Joel took her book and read it by flashlight and then i realized it was her laptop missing, not her book. I guess hearing about the books the whole time made me think "book" instead of "laptop".

I apologize if this sounds harsh, but this teaser is extremely hard to read. Everything is really unclear. A lot this has to do with some grammatical and structural problems.
I think one of the things you should strive for is trying to weave your clues into the narrative in a very natural way. Right now, sentences just seem to be thrown in because they're the clues. They make themselves too obvious and it's blatantly obvious they are the answers to the teaser.
If you can clear up the problems people have had with thr answer and the prose, I think this could become a great teaser.

Heh- I thought Joel used a flashlight, and Olivia took it, and she got a paper-cut when she moved the book to get the laptop. Great teaser!
Answer is obviously... obvious. Carrie said she knew who took it right after the stealer finished his sentence. If she had known before, she would have said it. #Logic PM me if you disagree
