The sound of "P" is a partway enunciation in its own right. Therefore APE can be included. Anyway, it did lead to some animated discussions
Also, each word has only one consonant.

I agree about Ape. To me if the answer were correct, then spelling out ape would say "A Pea" vs. "a (insert actual P sound here)." It was a great teaser though...would have never gotten it. I found the consenant trait as well.
