Brain Teasers
Initial Caps
Group
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.Group
Which word from Group B belongs in Group A?
Group A:
Cling
Drive
Fort
State
Group B:
Motion
Peach
Grass
Walk
Group A:
Cling
Drive
Fort
State
Group B:
Motion
Peach
Grass
Walk
Answer
MotionIf you pronounce the words in Group A so that the first letter of each word is an individual syllable, you get new words: ceiling, derive, effort, estate. Only with motion from Group B can the same thing be done: emotion.

Isn't it more like E-motion. I don't really say M-otion. I like the idea of the teaser though.

I saw the teaser in a completely different way. Fort, state, drive and motion are all things from a road trip. Peaches, grass, walk and cling (wrap) could all be found at a picnic.
W O W
i got the right answer for the wrong reason

I didn't get it right either. I would have chosen walk, because in group A, all the words were in alphabetical order... the word walk would have been the next one in line....
Very clever, though!!

a real poser

Didn't like it too much, sorry
Too tough for me, but I enjoyed it as did many others There would have been a bigger smile had I solved it!
Didn't enjoy it much either.
Good teaser...didnt get it though. I was looking word association.
That was a good one!
I thought it was good also Although I chose motion I wasn't looking at it that way. So you got me good!!!!
That's a cool one!! Going in the favs!!
Well, I really liked this one because: I GOT IT!!!!! YEA!!!!!!! and also because... um, because I GOT IT! Oh yeah, also because it was harder than the other ones I got so far. Seems like the more you can just kind of LOOK without trying too hard, the easier to see an answer...
Thanks, that was nice!
Thanks, that was nice!
liked it...didn't get it...but liked it
I got it by guessing we, not figuring it out. Not bad at all!
Why are the comments "THis is offensive" still on here every day? It is very annoying!

clever but too obscure -- a bit too tortured for moi
Cute
All I can say is W W!
Redneck Woman - I am seeing nothing about "This is offensive" anywhere. I can't even find an option to make such a notation for comments that I find offensive.
Darn, I was thinking it was alphebetical order--so I guessed "walk" --I liked your answers better...even though I pronounce emotion "e"-motion, instead of "m"-motion...but I still liked it and I'm trying to think of other words like that now--nothing so far...but I just woke up---good job! Thanks
I was able to come up with a couple where the "m" says "em" ... migrant/emigrant or migrate/emigrate kind of work. The problems with these is that the "i" vowel changes from long to short. Oh well.
That was a TOUGHIE WOW.Did not get it as I am sure most people did not either Well done Goes in my favorites
This teaser was good, and sort of easy. I got the answer correct on sight of the two list. As I have often said, any teaser that can involves the brain in wind activity is worth reading. Have a motionfilled week!!!!!!!
As I have often said, thanks for the enjoyment you bring to my days, Braingles; You and the members of the Braingle's Community.
Thanks for the Bday recognition!!!
Thanks for the Bday recognition!!!
cool! Awesome! Keep it up!
That was the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard! Why would anyone find that amusing or good?!
Yeah I got the right answer too, but also for the wrong reason. Never would have come up with that.
I also guessed walk, but hey, it was fun.
nice one
That was cute!
Thanks for all your great comments!
For the EEmotion people, how do you pronounce it in a sentence? I say emotion with a long 'e' when I'm saying the word, but in a sentence (like, "She showed a lot of emotion") I use a short 'e'.

this was my first correct guess. but then again the answer was obvious.
That's a good one. Unfortunately the title gave it way. As soon as I tried to find relevence to "initial Caps" it was obvious.
I don't get it
Ididn't think to do that, so I didn't get the answer...

By that logic, why could you not select Peach, as impeach?
Peach would give you 'pee-each'. Mpeach would give 'impeach' (sort of). Your not adding something that isn't there, you are just pronouncing the first letter separately.

Still not sure how emotion (i-motion) or short e emotion works, should sound like a m correct? mmotion?
