Brain Teasers
Arson in Kenya
Two brothers from Kenya were preparing their boats for a day of fishing on Lake Victoria. The younger and less experienced brother was confused when he saw a thick brown cloud near the middle of the lake. He wondered if something had caught on fire and asked his brother if they should check for any victims. Upon seeing the cloud, the older brother laughed and assured his brother that as long as they steered clear of the cloud, no one would be hurt. At the end of the day the younger brother laughed at his mistake and even appreciated the cloud as he ate his dinner. What was that mysterious cloud?
Hint
If the cloud was approaching your house, you would be quick to close your windows.Answer
The cloud was a huge swarm of midges. These insects breed in enormous clouds containing billions of midges and even early European explorers were fooled by this 'smoke'. As it was suggested above, it is very common for locals to catch midges, pat them into small cakes, deep fry them, and eat them. Bon appetit...Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

great trivia teaser!!
There was mention of getting hurt...I assumed it was bees. No one ever said these insects were dangerous. But if they breed in 'clouds' and it WOULD be dangerous...probably only cuz they're trying to do their 'thing'
I also saw the 'Lake Victoria' and didn't know it was IN Kenya. I thought it would be in Canada. And the fact that the guys were from Kenya was to confuse people.
OOPS....I really did learn somthing!

I have heard of fog thick as pea soup. A bowl of that with a delicious midge cake would be a tidy lunch from Mother Nature's kitchen.
Watching the Discovery Channel and PBS comes in handy in moments like this.
No idea, how many people would. I never even heard of a midge
Can't even go outside anymore
No more trips to Kenya for me. I have a friend, Midge.....I wonder if she knows a food staple (ugh) shares her name?
YUCK! It's only 10 in the morning here - so super yuck - but it is interesting.
Wow! I never would've thought of insects of any kind! I'm from a place where there aren't any such swarms, & so it's not something that automatically springs to mind. I've heard about them, though! Thanks for teaching me, though.
wow i learned something new today this one was rather hard to figure out

How is this even a brain teaser? It is not a puzzle, it is simply narrative trivia.
Hey, uncleduffy- it is less of a brain teaser, but still very good. A little history and knowledge will take you anywhere... Good job! I liked this!
You learn something new every day. very interesting.
Yeah, a little knowledge can take you a long way, and with some of gumbypal's pea soup and a delicious midge cake, you can go even further.
i guessed a dust cloud
but what in the world are midges???

The beauty of 'trivia' is that it's so trivial. I doubt this is one I'll try to remember, but I loved it none the less. Great job verve
