Brain Teasers
Radio Program
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A man is driving his car. He turns on the radio, listens for five minutes, turns around, goes home, and divorces his wife. Why?
Answer
The radio program is one of those shows where they call up someone at random and ask them a question. The announcer states the name and town of the man's wife as the person he would call next. He does so, and a male voice answers. From this, he gathered his wife was having an affair.Hide Answer Show Answer

How does he know? He could just be like a gardener or some thing. He can't just assume that his wife is having a affair. Any way, won't he go to jail if he shoots her?
Yeah, or that man at home w/ his wife coulda been a relative, old friend, etc.
its just a teaser your not supposed to take it so seriously!
Anyway like the man wouldn't know that he employed a gardener or not? I would like to know what strange man would be answering the telephone at my house as I am driving to work. Good one!
i never, ever heard of a program like that before. it is definitely not in any country i really know of
Uh, okay, you don't just shoot your spouse for having an affair. Besides, how could he be sure that it was a romantic partner of his wife's and not just a friend, neighbor, or professional acquitance?
Sorry, I mean acquaintance. By the way, the teaser's not bad; it just seems a little overdramatic. Maybe if you'd have a little more info to prove there was an affair, it'd make more sense.
Well, the man was REALLY stupid for answering the phone if he is secretly having an affair with another man's wife.
Really bad would be if the radio host had misdialled and it wasn't even the guys house.
I thought maybe he heard on the radio that there was a zombie epidemic and his wife had all the symptoms.
NOT COOL DUDE!
I know it's just an intellectual exercise, but why does the theme of men killing women, as if it was somehow an expected reaction, come up so often? I find it sort of creepy. You could have the same puzzle with something like "he went home and asked his wife for a divorce".
