Cryptoxymorography II
Cryptography
In Cryptography teasers, a phrase or expressions has been encoded in some way (frequently by replacing letters with other letters). You need to figure out the encoding method and then decode the message to find the answer.Cryptography
Oxymorons are words with opposite or incongruous meanings that when linked together, form a descriptive phrase.
Cryptography teasers are teasers in which a phrase or expression has been encoded in some way.
Cryptoxymorography teasers are teasers in which oxymorons are concealed in a cryptic mass of letters.
Can you decipher the oxymorons? They all use the same code.

Great job swaffy, you're doing very good on the crypts so far. Keep them coming as i really enjoy these.
Yeah, but this is in "other" for some reason
Good one, got it though I can hardly see Keep these coming they are great
That was cool! But they are really hard to crack for me as of now! Fun though!
can you explain why this is in other? i tried fixing it into cryptography, but no one accepted that...
Great teaser! Thank goodness for those double Xs... had to assume they were S and rightly so.
GREAT, GOOD ONE!
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SATISFACTION THAT OTHERS GET FROM FINDING THE KEY, YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO IT, IT'S JUST AN EDUCATED GUESS AND TRIAL AND ERROR.

this is a great teaser. but i only got #3 by my self. i peeked at #1,2. that helped alittle but i still didn't got any others. i had letters and blankes and still do them. i guess that my brain is still on vacation. keep up the good work, i may get some yet.
The cryptography was alright, but no offense, you aren't very good with the oxymorons:
Fairly dark:
Fairly means partially and dark means having an absolute or relative lack of light
partial lack of light
Front end:
The end is simply the "extreme part" of something, the end can be at either the beginning or the end
Great depression:
Great means very big or large scale...not necessarily good
Homeless shelter:
the shelter is not considered a home, especially when they don't necessarily live there
Ill health:
Health is physical condition and that can be bad (ill)...it's health not healthy
Job security?
I'm sure that I am missing something but I don't see how this is an oxymoron
Jumbo shrimp
Merely means that a shrimp I large shrimp in an animal...that's like saying jumbo cat is an oxymoron
I'm really sorry if I offended you, it's just that oxymorons that aren't oxymorons is a super pet peeve of mine

Someone seems to have whole missed the concept of an oxymoron, and someone else clearly missed the concept of civil behavior, but such are the days of our life at Braingle.
Good teaser. These oxymorons were a little challenging to work out, sorta like catch-and release whaling, lots of work for a moment or two of fun; but worth it.

I am speachless. This was very hard.
Cryptography is not my strength.
Another good one. Takes time, but fun.
I didn't have enough time or patience to unscramble the words, but great job anyway
My apologies, big! Here, I was looking for the opposites of any expressions, so I could try to crack the oxymorons to find them. Otherwise, these are fantastic crytogramic teasers. I am more of a logic and numbers person.. Keep them coming, though. They still tease the mind.
BRAVO!! BRAVO!!
Luffle it.
A good teaser to wake me up in the morning xD

Hey thelordnyax build a bridge and get over it!!!!!!!!! These are just fun things. You must have way to much time in on your hands.
A couple of people needs stronger meds. 2 hard so I just went to the answers. Good ones.
I looked at answers right away! I love to read oxymorons, despite what "Lord"whats his name said above!
i love oxymorons and find cryptography fun, this is an awesome riddle, and way to combine the 2
This was truly hard. I got it but only after using the hints.
Thelordnyax has a very good point. Leave him alone.
I am befuddled by this.
Great job loved it. Took some time but ver doable. More please.
These are my favorites. Perhaps because I've been doing them for many years..as opposed to logic puzzles that usually stump me. Good Job again, BIGswaff.
I don't mind what thelordynax (hope I got that correct) has to say. But, he needs to know that Oxymorons do not have to be opposites. The words just have to be incongruous with each other. So things like "angry smile" would be an oxymoron. Yes, "Smile" isn't the opposite of "Angry", but, "smily" implies happyness, saying it is angry makes it seem odd. The words are incongruous.
"smily" implies happyness
should have been
"Smile" implies happiness,
it's late, give me a break.

Let's give everybody a break.
I really enjoyed this, good job!
The first part I figured out was that nxx = ess, and then I realized that #10 was probably the classic oxymoron "jumbo shrimp" -- I was keeping an eye out for the proper number of letters for that one, and double-checked by matching the m's in 'jumbo' and 'shrimp'... then I triple-checked by using the letters I knew in #9, and I got something sensible... and from there, I kept working my way backwards through the oxymorons. Wheeee!
Anyways, I'm not surprised to see that the definition of oxymoron is being disputed... it's quite unfortunate that thelordnyax went to so much effort but was incorrect in arguing against some of these oxymorons. This is because it's not the definition of the phrase as a whole that is the oxymoron, it's just the fact that the two words, if seen apart from each other, have meanings that could be considered contradictory, or indeed, opposite.
This would mean that yes, 'job security' is not an oxymoron. I'm guessing it's a joke about how no job is secure.. but even if that were true, this wouldn't be an oxymoron.
The others, though, are oxymorons.
- fairly dark: fair (skin) is light in colour, opposite to dark (skin). Haha, oxymoron!
- front end: the front is the first thing you see, the end is the last. Haha, oxymoron!
- Great Depression: if someone is feeling great, that's opposite to depressed. Haha, oxymoron!
- homeless shelter: a home is a shelter, so homeless means lack of shelter .. it's a stretch, but there's no denying that it is a juxtaposition of opposites. Haha, oxymoron!
- ill health: Ill means sick, the opposite of health(y). Haha, oxymoron!
- jumbo shrimp: jumbo means a big version of something, while calling someone a shrimp means you're calling them small. Haha, oxymoron!
Anyways, sorry I had to argue, but I couldn't let this be unsaid ... this thread could've confused some people, and it would really suck to miss out on the fun of oxymorons just due to a lack of understanding!!

The "front end" of a car is the first thing you see when it runs you over. It is distinctive from the "rear end" which is (hopefully not) the last thing you see.
Took some days to find enough time for working out the answers, and today was my lucky day! Could get all correct except for i=j and g=b.
This one is a very good teaser. I salute all those who could crack this on the same day it appeared.
I would certainly like to see more of these crypto-oxymorons to tickle my brain!

Thanks for the comment, but I'll have to "burst your bubble". There wont be any more of these, because they are now impossible to get threw the Queue. Basically put it this way, the Editors don't want any more of them, so there wont be any more of them.
