Brain Chain
A brain chain, is a list of words, that are connected in one of four ways.
1. They rhyme.
2. They are synonyms.
3. They are anagrams
4. They differ by one letter.
This example is a word chain: file, life, lice, slice, piece
Note: The first and last word of the chain are not connected.
Make the following words into a brain chain. And just to make it harder, I added an extra word. Good Luck!
van...rouge...angel
rough..vehicle..puff...fan
saint..buff..paint
1. They rhyme.
2. They are synonyms.
3. They are anagrams
4. They differ by one letter.

Good night cdrock, do you dream these? Great one, keep them coming I was first to comment?
Good one! Really creative and something new!
Good going cd, keep them coming.
You made me think.
Well I thought it was clever for sure. I am dyslexic so I had a bit of trouble initially - butI got it right in the end! Good one!
Neato!
this was really hard... but really fun! it took me a while but i got it!
keep these coming.
keep these coming.
Language made easy. I enjoyed these. thanx cdrocks
rouge got me...isnt that like blush? How does that get to paint? Oh well, I almost got it though, better to have tried!
Am I the only one confused by the instructions? I mean, you gave us the definition of a 'brain chain', but no clue about whether we're supposed to string them all into one, or each line, or whatever. '...' usually denotes missing text, so logically one would have to assume that you wanted us to supply the missing words. Why not just tell us that you wanted the all the given words re-arranged into one 'brain chain'? Damn, a complete waste of time.
No, it wasn't just you. I had trouble understanding what to do too. An extra line in the directions would really help this teaser.
I didn't understand the instractions eather...
Good, I'm not the only one offering "constructive blah blah" this time. Yeah, it said the words are connected by one of four ways, but all one way? or it looked like one word to the next used one of the four ways. OK, kinda, but then, each line was a chain and we say how they're connected? Or what? Because I never would have guessed we're supposed to put them all together.
Except for that, I mean if that was clear, it would have been great! Thanks!

I see the answer and still don't understand. Sorry.
That was great! Again! Again!
clever! clever! Thanks Cdrock
I guess that was hard!
That was really difficult esp as instructions weren't very clear.
quite clever when you see the answer though!

I found the lack of instructions confusing too. I "peeked" at the answer (without really reading it) to see what I was supposed to do. Then I ALMOST got it, but was tripped up by the connection between "buff" and "fan". All I could think of was "buffing" like POLISHING something!! :lolMust have been the all the vehicle references!!)
Anyway... GOOD ONE CD!! ....but could you make the instructions clearer next time please?!!
Anyway... GOOD ONE CD!! ....but could you make the instructions clearer next time please?!!
Ooops!! That "mad" face got in there by accident!!! (re: the above msg.) Was supposed to be !!
Great teaser!! It took atleast 20 minutes out of my work day. I was a little confused on the connection between buff and fan, but my vocabulary isn't the greatest either. Also, I could be wrong, but I think puff can be used also. Right between buff and rough, because puff and buff differ by one letter, and puff and rough rhyme. I loved this teaser though...send us some more!!
BORING AS USUAL!!!!
Like mogur, I also thought that the ellipsis points ... meant I needed to fill in words, not just rearrange words already given. UCH!
Yep -- I, too, was confused by the instructions and the ellipses. However, the next one of these you come up with, CDrock, I will be excited to try!
what do fan and buff have to with each other?
So hard...but nice.
This would have been a great teaser if it was correct. Fan and buff have no relationship, nor does rouge and paint. A shame really.
I was kinda lost as well, and I just blamed it on "morning brain", but now I feel better!! LOL
Sorry but I agree that the instructions were impossible to understand. I thought that each line was seperate and we had to find another meaning for each word given to meet your definitions.
I also strugled with the instructions. Wish there had been a hint line on this one as I might, and I do mean "MIGHT" have perceived this very difficult, but good as uaual, teaser. Great job CDRock. In other words I completely bombed this one. Keep them coming tho as I know its there for something besides keeping my ears apart.
Very very good, BUT very very DIFFICULT!!!!! Did not have a clue!!!
Yes, I like others agree that the directions should have been clearer, I was also thinking we had to fill in the gaps...oh well, it would been a lot easier! Great job anyhow, it was very original!
Hey! I unlike others felt that your directions were quite clear and that this was one of my most enjoyable teasers. Clever, mildly complicated, cool
This brain chain was very fun ...but definately not difficult
Good work and keep sending in teasers!
Good work and keep sending in teasers!
good teaser really made me think
As others have said, the instructions were not clear. Furthermore, "synonym" means, "a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language." That means "close calls" are not "synonyms." "Fan" and "buff" are not synonyms, neither are "rouge" and "paint," nor "saint" and "angel." I realize it is not easy to put these teasers together, but please work them through all the way rather than throwing them up there as "good enough."
I agree the instructions were not clear (I was trying to make a chain using just the words in each line, e.g. van fan fad rad red rouge glow glean angel).
Re the synonyms, I think fan/buff, angel/saint and rouge/paint are close enough to qualify - if the instructions were clearer they would have been reasonably obvious.

BUFF and FAN are synonyms according to thesaurus.com:
buff
Definition: enthusiast
Synonyms: addict, admirer, aficionado, connoisseur, devotee, expert, fan, fiend, freak, habitué, hound, lover, votary

Hey Wiz, I thought your chain was fantastic! I was struggling to go line by line because I didn't get the directions either. It looked like there were 3 chains we were supposed to make, not use all the words to make a chain.
I had 'saint, stain, buff, rough, paint' for the "3rd" line and figured I blew it so I looked at the answer. After looking at all the comments, I don't feel so bad now.
Anyway, next time I'll know.

From Dictionary.com:
rouge
n : makeup consisting of a pink or red powder applied to the cheeks [syn: paint, blusher]
saint
n 1: a person who has died and has been declared a saint by canonization 2: person of exceptional holiness [syn: holy man, holy person, angel]
rouge
n : makeup consisting of a pink or red powder applied to the cheeks [syn: paint, blusher]
saint
n 1: a person who has died and has been declared a saint by canonization 2: person of exceptional holiness [syn: holy man, holy person, angel]
This was a bit confusing, possibly misdirected, but definitely not boring except to an easily bored mind.
boring
very nice.
I shall reserve judgment until I see Brain Chain #2 and try it, especially now that I know what I'm supposed to do.
Actually my chain wasn't that good, I was missing "gleam" before "glean" (they mean quite different things!)
puff could be inserted between buff and rough
i got that soooooo quickly!!! and i wrote it down even though i thought i was wrong......but i wasnt i got all the answers correctly!!!! arent i just so smart
dazed and confused
