Snake Dilemma
Trivia
Trivia brain teasers have some element of trivia in them, but they are not just pure trivia questions.Trivia
A man was transporting two similar looking snakes to the veterinarian. One was the Coral snake, and the other was the Scarlet King snake. They both had similar colour patterns, which made it very hard to determine which is which (they both have yellow black red patterns). A big difference is that the Coral is very venomous, while the Scarlet King is non-venomous. As he got them to the veterinarian building to secure them, he realized they had both gotten out of their cage. When he saw the first one, he reached down without a second glance, grabbed it, and brought it inside, knowing that if it bit him he wouldn't be poisoned. How did he know it was the non-venomous snake?
Answer
One difference between the snakes is that the Coral colour pattern has bigger areas of black than the Scarlet king. The Scarlet King has small stripes of black, while the Coral has large stripes of black, which makes them look different enough to determine which snake is which.Hide Answer Show Answer

this is a trick question
i thought the answer would be something like "it was a garden snake that he picked up"

no trick, probably more like trivia, but still a good teaser

since it said trick, i thought maybe he was already bitten by one, so he was sure the other is non-venomous!
good info though.

I like this one tin man, but I have to agree that this is more trivia

Snakes!

Fun Teaser, liked it and got it

I agree that this is more trivia. He could also have looked at the color patterns: "Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Red on black, won't hurt Jack." That's what I thought the answer was!

Thank you everyone for your comments, and I did mess up, I accidentally clicked on trick instead of trivia. Thank you again!

Isn't there another difference? I know of some snakes where one has one color on another while the second has the other on the one. Like one has yellow on red and one has red on yellow.
I also thought of the color patterns...

It is the colour pattern....

also poisonous snakes have the head more distictly separtated from the neck..or maybe the other way around
Fun teaser even though I was raised to treat all snakes as poisonous. HA!

Its the pattern not necessarily the size of the stripe that distinguishes them.
'If red touches yellow, it can kill a fellow' (coral snake - Micrurus spp.)
'If red touches black, it is a friend of Jack' (scarlet kingsnake, L. t. elapsoides or scarlet snake, Cemophora coccinea)

I thought color pattern to since where I live we really have to watch for that. Also poisoness smakes have trangular heads. Good one though

Hmm cool.

*teehee* The pattern answer was the obvious one.. but seriously!.. nobody transports deadly venomous snakes without milking them first if they get the chance.

Tinman... you know too much...
Really though, niiiiiice.

Really though, niiiiiice.

Another idea could be that the other snake had already bitten that snake, causing it to die... it's good to be creative.
