Brain Teasers
Blender?
I can sound like many things including a freight train amplified
Or a magnificent waterfall but more intensified
I can also be quite calm and no sound will I provide
In some cases, I will even arrive electrified
Tossing balls of ice from which you will want to hide
I am often preceded by blacks and greens combined
Though I spin and can move from side to side
I am not a toy you would want to ride
If you are not quick and stand terrified
I will take you for a quick roller coaster ride
But beware, as it will not be a joyride
My tremendous strength and power can't be denied
I have the ability to temporarily levitate and leave you mystified
I can become more than one when I choose to divide and become multiplied
I will then appear to be standing side by side
But do not be fooled as my power can still reach far and wide
From here to there and across the countryside
I can move many things, whether empty or occupied
For I'm very good at clearing the land as I glide
I need no tools, blueprints or plans as my guide
When I choose to leave, you will feel as if you have been hit broadside
Many who have experienced me are left tongue-tied
As they view my wrath which can't be pacified
Sometimes I might have left a few things with which I did not collide
The rest was taken by me as I pulled and I pried
I will return once again as my time I will bide
I am known to revisit an "Alley" as I take it in stride
My traits I have given and my ways I have supplied
Nothing have I hidden and I have not lied
You should know who I am, if all these clues have been applied
Who am I, as it is now time to decide?

Hint
I am not a blender which spins that which you place inside.Although, I do spin and destroy anything that lies in my path when we collide.
Answer
My name is quite simple even if you are not PlatoFor I smash and I squish things as if they were a tomato
If you deciphered my traits, you will know I am a tornado
The most common tornado sound is a continuous rumble, like a closeby train. Sometimes a tornado produces a loud whooshing sound, like that of a waterfall, or in some cases, no noise until it is upon you.
Lightning (electrified in teaser) and hail (balls of ice) characteristics vary from storm to storm, from one hour to the next, and even with the direction the storm is moving with respect to the observer. While large hail can indicate the presence of an unusually dangerous thunderstorm, and can happen before a tornado, don't depend on it. Hail, or any particular pattern of rain, lightning or calmness, is not a reliable predictor of a tornado threat as they vary from storm to storm.
The reference to "preceded by blacks and greens combined" refers to the often odd color of the sky before an approaching tornado.
Numerous tornadoes have lofted (mainly light) debris many miles into the sky, which was then carried by middle and upper atmospheric winds for long distances. The vertical winds in tornadoes can be strong enough to temporarily levitate even heavy objects if they have a large face to the wind or flat sides (like roofs, walls, trees and cars), and are strong enough to carry lightweight objects tens of thousands of feet high. Though the heaviest objects, such as railroad cars, can only be airborne for short distances, stories of checks and other papers found over 100 miles away are often true.
Tornadoes are known to occur in the same areas year after year. One area of the United States is actually called "Tornado Alley". Tornado Alley is the American Meteorological Society's designation for the area of the U.S. in which tornadoes are most frequent. It encompasses the great lowland areas of the Mississippi, the Ohio, and lower Missouri River Valleys. Although no state is entirely free of tornadoes, they are most frequent in the Plains area between the Rocky Mountains and Appalachians.

What a twisted teaser, Froggie. Very well done. It's obvious you did your homework on this one.
That was a good one. I didn't know that about the green and black in the sky before a tornado. I am moving to Oklahoma in April, so it is a good piece of info to have!
I live right in the middle of Tornado Alley. We've gotten quite a few Tornadoes, and actually had one touch down in our town last year.
But I agree, somebody broke out the encylopedia
Good job

Thanks sgt for the cute comment!
WJSMama I'm also glad you liked my teaser. Good luck on your move and watch those skies!
Hey LB swaff! I know what you mean about the tornadoes as I was born and raised in Ohio and lived through many tornadoes. Very scary to see and to experience. We actually had the roofs of barns and houses lifted off and set down in one piece a mile or so away. I also saw a piece of ordinary straw that had been put through a telephone poll and was still intact. Scary stuff.

Very well done! I got it right away! YAY me!! Nice job!
LOL! The only reason I got this one was because I am doing a report on tornadoes. Thank you for confirming most of my information!
I can't believe the fantastic comments you have all made on my teaser! Thank you all for putting a huge smile on my face!
That was a good one.
I have to say that was a very good one. It was pretty easy for me since we had one touch down less than a mile from my house on Nov 15. Can you believe that it's supposed to be winter and we still have tornadoes!! I live right in the middle of torando alley. Good work on all the clues. You must be some sort of storm buff to know all of that.
I got this one! It helped though, I had seen all of the signs, (except for the silent tornado) when we lived in NC. The frealiest is the green sky!! It looks like you are on another planet-seriously. ANd the train thing woke my husband and me up in the middle of the night, and the bed was vibrating!! I joked about "how many quarters did you put in this thing?" Then high tailed it to a safe spot!
Kinda on the easy side, but I liked the ones I can answer!!
Great riddle thanks
Great riddle thanks
Thank you everyone for your great comments. We don't really have tornadoes here in CA but I do remember them from when I grew up in Ohio. Now, I have earthquakes!

Sexy, yes it does seem as though we have switched places regarding weather! Glad you liked me teaser.
lizard, that is strange as I rarely hear of tornadoes here in CA - maybe very small ones that are really just a swirl of dust. Glad it wasn't in my backyard! Thanks for the comment.

I figured it out after reading the first sentence!
Froggy, super job with this gr8 teaser. Took me back to the day when we had tornado drills in school. I've seen these powerful forces up close. In fact after moving to Arizona I experienced one in the little community of Sunnyslope! AZ is still in denial of having said weather!
Nicely written and this teaser will be extra special to me as it made my score 1,000! Thanks so much Froggy!!!

The freight train & green & black gave it away for me - used to live in Indiana. Very well put-together teaser, BTW!

Very fun though, I got it quickly but it was really well written!!
Well, ribbet!

Really great teaser, even if I didn't get it! I thought bulldozer. 8(
I know about tornadoes in Missouri, that's where I live now, but have gone through some rough ones in other places too. One destroyed my kids' playhouse after blowing it over the 3 story house next door!
