Brain Teasers
Math Competition
Felipe's school is hosting a math competition against other schools in the same district. Each school can only allow 10 students to compete. Felipe and his classmates are taking tests to determine the 10 best math students to send. Felipe did well, but tied with John Roy for the last spot. His teacher decided to set-up a one-problem challenge, whoever got it right the fastest would win.
Knowing that "H" is equal to 10, and T is half of M, how could MATH be 42, TEAM be 40, and MEET be 37?
Knowing that "H" is equal to 10, and T is half of M, how could MATH be 42, TEAM be 40, and MEET be 37?
Answer
MATH: 14 + 11 + 7 + 10 =42TEAM: 7+8+11+14 =40
MEET: 14+8+8+7=37
(H=10; E=8; T=7; M=14; A=11)
Felipe answered his question just seconds before John Roy, sending him to the competition.

that was nice and fun and easy... got it right off the bat
na craptastic
that was a cool teeaser i liked it i got it right away
That was so much fun! More please!
Very simple, but fun!
If M,A,T, and H were variables, then MATH would equal M*A*T*H, not M+A+T+H.
I have to agree. Any math teacher presenting the problem like that should be fired.
If you're going to gripe that you inferred multiplication, you might as well complain that it isn't positional, i.e., MATH means 1000 * M + 100 * A + 10 * T + H. It should have been shown in the answer that MAT = 32, TEAM - MAT = E = 8, TEEM - EE = TM = TTT = 21.

OK someone tell me if i am wrong but in the ? it sais that TEAM=40
but when it gives you the answer it sais TEAM=34
but when it gives you the answer it sais TEAM=34
I agree, it should be multiplication.
And TEAM is given as 40 in the body but 34 in the answer.
