Brain Teasers
Rolling Donut Shop
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
It was a warm, rainy day. At 9:30 a.m, Sid Ex left his idling car facing the "Rolling Donut Shop" and walked down the hill to "Al's Garage". Sid Ex complained to Al that his car had been acting strange lately. At 10:00 a.m., Sid Ex's driverless car rolled down the hill, went through the "Rolling Donut Shop" window, and killed none other than Mrs. Ex. The puddle of water on the floor of the driver's side convinced Shadow to suspect Sid of foul play. Since Sid did not use any mechanical device, how could he have committed the crime when he wasn't near the car?
Answer
Sid had left his car idling in drive and kept it stationary by wedging a piece of ice between the brake pedal and the bottom of the dash. Sid had timed the melting of the ice exactly half an hour, hoping to use Al as his alibi.Hide Answer Show Answer

Good, though I've read loads involving ice left to melt, so - pretty easy.
Speaking of detective work, what is suggested by the fact that Sid's name changed to Shady and Mrs Ex became Mrs X? Hmm.
The reasons the names changed is because the person who submitted it screwed up when he/she was transferring it from its original source. This person tried to change the last names but then later forgot. As with many brain teasers here, this was copied almost exactly from a game or book.
oh no wait, let me guess - it was ice!
sorry, but most of these teasers seem to involve ice - maybe we can find something else that will melt? (i have no idea what)

I agree with sweetime. I was about to comment on the fact that ice is super-popular, but I got beat to it.

I was thinking along the same lines but using ice as a chock for front wheel, but that wouldn't have left a wet patch on the floor of the car
Hmm... Since I got my username from a game called Mindtrap, I noticed that this teaser is PLAGIARIZED FROM MINDTRAP WITH NEXT TO NOTHING CHANGED!!! DO NOT PLAGIARIZE! It says clearly in the rules. WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?! I know that not many people read the comments, but I want to get my point across. PLAGIARIZING IS AGAINST THE LAW! MINDTRAP IS A COPYRIGHTED GAME!
Plagiarism is like ice melting and watering down this very good website. A slap in the face to all of us who write original teasers.
It was a warm rainy day, which convinces me that there could be a puddle anywhere in the city.
