Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Once a man fell into the Amazon River, and it swept him away. He was badly injured. He lost all of his tools, including his compass; however, he still was able to get a vague idea of what time it was. How?
Hint
He could see the sun.Answer
He knew that the Amazon flows east which gave him a sense of direction. All he had to do is look at the sun, which rises in the east and sets in the west.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Thats pretty good except that the hint gives away too much of the answer.
The amazon river is the home to alot of great looking fish.
My reasoning was that the compass didn't really matter and he still had a watch. Using the hint, I figured it was light enough for him to read his watch, which might have been off so the time was rather "vague." Nice teaser.
There is a way to figure out north with a watch.
Point 12 o clock to the sun, and on an analogue watch, wherever your hour hand is, there is north.
I think.

I'm confused. Just because he was able to get an idea of where he was by seeing the sun, nowhere did the author is this indicate the man had a watch. Can't figure out why everyone thought that. But yet there are too many variables for this one. Sorry, I realize the sun gave him the clue and all, but how far did the Amazon wash him away. Too many variables I feel.
Could do without the hint
Dish, you're close. I know there is some kind of trick but I don't know exactly what it is. I do know that it isn't that. But that was my thought too.
It did say, "He had lost all of his equipment" I think perhaps a watch falls into 'all?'
Parts of the Amazon river meander in every conceivable direction.

The sun would be a better option.

he could have made a sun dial
i knew that!
Great one!! Thanks!
The Amazon is not a perfectly straight river, obviously. That is very rare. He could be traveling N-S at the time when he checked the sun
Too many possibilities in this...
maybe he saw a group of explorers and he just asked them
...theres many more possibilities i can think of
overall, nice teser, pretty easy

and! the hint gave the answer cuz the author said how did he no wut time it was? the hint said he could see the sun! thats the answer! then wut he called the "answer" it said... he nose the river flows east. that didnt answer the question! i gess i shouldnt have critized it like that!

Actually you'd have no idea if you just saw the sun in the sky, that is except on some days when you can tell if it's dark when it's setting
i knew it straight away easy!!

that was way too obvious
he looked at his watch! The teasers doesn't say anything about him losing his watch.
A watch falls under the category of 'He lost all of his tools'.
since when has a watch been classed as a tool? Thats ridiculous.
do his clothing also come under "he lost all his tools"? or is just a selective category?
do his clothing also come under "he lost all his tools"? or is just a selective category?
wouldn't looking at the sun blind him/?
I thought that he knew that he was in the amazon
Um, if he was swept into the amazon river and was badly injured, I don't he'd care about what time it was?
