Brain Teasers
Deadly After-Shave
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A man is given after-shave for his birthday. He puts some on and later that day dies. How?
Hint
His death was accidental. The person who gave him the gift did not know it would lead to his death.Answer
The man was a bee-keeper. The after-shave changed his smell and the swarm of bees that knew him well now attacked him as a stranger.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

or maybe he was deathly allergic?
Fidel Castro has a huge anaconda snake, which is trained to attack anyone that is not wearing a certain make of after shave. all official house guests are sprayed with the scent as the enter his home. Just thought it was relevant to the puzzle.
Of course there are many other ways he could have died and therefore other solutions that fit the details given. In this SITUATION he wasn't allergic, nor was he in Cuba. Played the way situation teasers are meant to be solved, you could have asked these questions and I would have answered no. You could have then moved on to other theories and fleshed out other details until you came to the given answer. That is not to say other scenario's couldn't be true - they just aren't the correct one for solving the teaser in that particular SITUATION! But then - I'm basically repeating the disclaimer given at the beginning of every situation teaser=) Although it may seem frustrating if you are trying to guess the answer with no feedback (since there usually aren't enough details given originally), they can be a lot of fun when they are solved the way they were designed to be.
mine wasn't an attempt to answer your teaser, just an interesting fact i thought you would enjoy. Obviously I was mistaken.
mad-ade, why do you have to be so sarcastic all the time? are you just not a people person? Peace-jo simply thought that you were trying to confuse the purpose of situation puzzles or didn't know how they work. he/she was just trying to help you (maybe). ya don't have to get all "oh, maybe i was mistaken, nuh nuh nuh."
piffle, for your information mad-ade said "OBVIOUSLY I was mistaken." Not "maybe nuh nuh nuh". I think it was a very humbling comment and I compliment him/her for it (no you).
Why doesn't the snake attack inFidel Castro? He has a beard so he doesn't smell like aftershave.Just wondering.
Despite the disclaimer, I will not change my opinion that situation teasers should have a degree of logic and uniqueness about them so that when you do find the answer, you say "Oh yeah, I see how that answer fits the clues in a special way." Like the excellent one about the scuba diver in the forest or the bankrupt Monopoly player. These are clever well thought out situation teasers. Many of the other situation puzzles are just - "I have a random answer here and you just have to keep guessing till you discover what I'm thinking." The answer no more fits the clues than myriads of others and in fact as many contributers continue to point out, they can come up with better solutions!
HA ha Bret! "Infidel" Castro. I'll bet he just cancelled his Braingle membership!
heard this one before in several places, but good.
do bees actually do that?
i thought that beekeepers wore those fantatically stylish suits for a reason...
and piffle - i thought that what mad-ade said was perfectly reasonable, peace-jo had obviously misunderstood what mad-ade meant

That's sad...
