Logic-Grid
Logic Grid puzzles come with a handy interactive grid that will help you solve the puzzle based on the given clues.Logic-Grid
Over Winter Break, five best friends each did different activities in different cities. Can you find out each friend's full name, what they did, and where they went?
First names: Julie, Megan, David, Fred, Sam
Last names: Wallace, Thompson, Mallard, Shields, Drake
Activities: Ski Trip, Moving, Cruise, Cooking Classes, Visiting Relatives
Places: Houston, Paris, Cleveland, Vancouver, Miami
1) Julie and Ms. Wallace, in particular, were sad that David wasn't coming back.
2) Neither Sam nor Julie have ever left the U.S. before this winter break.
3) All first names that have two syllables belong with last names that have two syllables. Nobody's last name starts with the same letter as their first name.
4) Ms. Mallard is excited to learn about French cuisine.
5) Mr. Thompson doesn't want to move.
6) The friends, in no particular order, are as follows: the girl who is going on a ski trip, Mr. Shields, Megan, the boy headed to Houston, and Julie.
7) Cruises can only be taken in warm coastal cities. Ski trips can only be taken in cold, mountainous places. Remember this is winter.
8) The cruise ship Fred is traveling on does not dock in Houston.

I think clue # 7 should have had the hint in it. In fact,I had already assumed the other facts in clue #7. By the way, Fred is sometimes a shortened form of a name also. All of this made it an interesting puzzle. Thanks.
Fun idea!
Clue 6 threw me off. I made the presumption that Sam was a male name. I don't typically open the hints, but I can't complain because the info was mentioned there.

Awewsome teaser!
I liked it!
I didn't like this teaser. A lot of assumptions had to be made, and you would have to know a lot about geography and where places are. One of the assumptions that was required was that Paris was in France. There is a city in California that is called Paris, so that was confusing. Next time you make a teaser, don't let it hinge on inferences, please!
I agree that too many assumptions had to be made. For example, "Neither Sam nor Julie have ever left the U.S. before this winter break" is supposed to give us the clue that they are leaving the US this time...but, just because they have never left the US before does NOT mean that they are going to do it this time either.
That was soooo fun! Took me half an hour though...
I agree that u left too much out there and too much had to be assumed. You say Mr. Thompson doesn't want to move. I saw that as he wasn't moving and it completely threw me off. Also just because someone wants to learn about French cusine doesn't mean they have to go to France to do so. There is a French Culinary School in my home town in PA.
I really like Logic-Grid puzzles but I'm sorry I just didn't enjoy this one. Next time please pay more attention to the clues you are writing before you submit the puzzle.

that wuz kewl thnx 4 the graph
Since it says "before this winter break", that implies that they are leaving this winter break. I do kind of agree with the other one, though. This is my first teaser! Thanx for the great comments!
P.S. the French cuisine hint implied that Julie was going to cooking class. True, she was also going to Paris, but even if you didn't pick up on that from that hint, you could have figured that out from process of elimination.
I agree with all of the people who said there were too many assumptions.... this was very weird.. I was ok with the "Sam" being a girl or guy. But there were other things that were just weird.
Great teaser!
Great teaser! Please make more!
There are cities named Paris & Vancouver here in the U.S.. That ruined the teaser for me
I was confused about the clue about David not coming back...at first I assumed that he was moving (and hence, not coming back). Good Logic-grid though...Tough one!
i didnt care for this one
This just didn't make much sense... If David isn't coming back, then he wouldn't be "visiting" anywhere. He would be moving. That just didn't make sense. Also, I live near Vancouver, WA so I agree that clarification should have been made as to where the cities were geographically.
I was disappointed in this one. How can you say that David is not coming back and he was off visiting relatives? Too confusing in some of the other clues, too. I am surprised that this one made the cut. Please try again, I know how tough it is to write these.
I did this teaser twice. According to the clues, David Thompson is MOVING to Houston and Megan Wallace is VISITING RELATIVES in Cleveland. I believe in the answer those two actions were flipped by mistake. -tom
I agree with Brettsgirl. Clue #1 threw me off.
I agree with others re David. What does it mean to say he isn't coming back, unless he's moving? Saying he doesn't want to move doesn't mean he isn't moving, just that he doesn't like the idea. This is a flawed puzzle, or else the given answer is incorrect.
Hi
I agree with the others in regard to David moving/visiting relatives, I do appreciate your efforts in compiling the puzzle, but it is deeply frustrating if it appears the answer you give doesn't tally with the clues.
Better luck next time.

In this teaser, one clue clearly states that two of the destinations are outside of the US, that surely has to mean Paris and Vancouver. I do have issues with other clues in this puzzle, but not this one. I wouldn't have thought it was necessary to specify that Paris is the capital of France and not an obscure town in Texas, and if one of the other correspondents says there is a town called Vancouver in Washington state, I wouldn't doubt it, but is that town known to anyone outside the immediate area? I for one immediately assumed that Vancouver meant the major city on the west coast of Canada. Remember this is the WORLD wide web and not the US web.
The clues were very confusing on this one. If someone is sad David isn't coming back, it must mean he is moving not just visiting relatives. Also which would make you think David's name isn't Thompson since we assume he is the one moving and clue 5 says Thompson isn't moving. If you follow that logic, according to clue six David would be Mr Sheilds, and then the only boy left would be Fred, but clue 8 says Fred's cruise didn't leave from Houston. So even if you swaped Megan and David's activities to wear David is moving and Megan is visiting, the last name still poses a problem. Again assuming that he doesn't want to move so he didn't
