Dagger
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
A dagger thrust at my own heart
Dictates the way I'm swayed
Left I stand, and right I yield
To the twisting of the blade.
What am I?
Dictates the way I'm swayed
Left I stand, and right I yield
To the twisting of the blade.
What am I?

woah! waay cool. I'd never have guessed. It sounded like some kind of murder scene! lol
I thought it was a rudder on a sail boat. Tricky...
Ooh, I like this one! It sounds very...poetic, or like something out of a murder story! Nice!
clever thanks for the riddle.
it totally sounded like a murder to me! LOVED it!! great job
Sounded a bit emo at first. Wouldn't have known... very criminal!
Good one - thought it was a weather vane...
Nicely written
Really good riddle, grilledcheese.I never would have guessed it, so have to say you got me!! Thanks for posting.
what does a dagger have in common with a key?i give this quizz an f..
liked it, I voted it as Fun & Hard (cos I didn't solve it), but it sure was fun trying to figure it out.
good one! never would have guessed it!
I SO AGREE WITH puttumup.
Great teaser! Very clever!
It was hard. I didn't get it. Good teaser, though.
Very clever!
I agree with putummut--and apparently no one has solved it so far. Too esoteric for my taste.
great teaser and well written!
I was also thinking murder, but I was way off base. Good one, it had me scratching my head. Also very poetic. Thanks grilledcheese.
For putummut:
It is, in fact, a riddle. The answer really isn't supposed to be obvious in the teaser. For example, it wouldn't really be interesting if I put, "A metal thing went into a hole in a door handle". Riddles make you think.

I couldn't get it, but it sounded very nice and poetic.
oh WOW!! If anyone thought all about GOTH it'd be you!! Great Job!!
Very nice! I was thinking a hand puppet...
Nice teaser...It came to me immediately (don't know why, it just did)..Well Done!!
Ahhhh, but I think I have another answer:
A water faucet: turn to the left and its "on"
turn to the right and a blade
inside cuts the water off
A water faucet: turn to the left and its "on"
turn to the right and a blade
inside cuts the water off
Is the "blade" the key? I don't think I get it.
Great teaser. I didn't know what it was, but after I read the answer it made sense. Thanks for posting.
Monday~
Monday~
Yes, the blade is the key
Yea What a great teaser Way too clever for me I loved it
I must say, this teaser TOTALLY ROCKS!!! Make more please! Very clever. Did you make this up yourself?
Very fun and clever, NICE!!
That was a very clever teaser. You made it sound like murder, when it wasn't. I thought you worded it very nicely. I didn't think it was too hard though, keep up the fantastic work!
Would a screw work here, with a screwdriver as the knife?
just wondering
just wondering
Didn't get it, very clever though
Good stuff...very clever! Hey Bob347 ... that was my answer, but I knew it was wrong because a screw yields either way you turn it.
Hey grilledcheese ... don't waste your time trying to explain poetry to the clueless ... they'll never get it.

Nice one... it could be other types of locks too, like the type you get on house doors with a push button on one side and a lock on the other
("lock" in the last sentence being the hole for the key... I should have re-read it before pressing submit :-/ )
i thought it was a screw
great job once again cheese... at first i thought it was the key to the lock... upon rereading it i realized the key was the dagger, thus the answer having to be the lock itself... love your riddles
nice one. couldnt come up with an answer for the life of me.
whoa cool I didnt get at first
Wow, That was great
A key is not a dagger. I rate this one with a capital F.
Still stumped me. Good one.
Some of you don't belong here. Dagger towards the heart. Key inserted into the lock. It's a riddle, and a darn good one. It's you complainers that dot to go. nuff said.
Most people liked it, but nobody solved it. How great can it be? Poetry was very good, but that is the best I can say!
A key is a dagger? A bit far fetched. Sorry but this was pretty bad.
Don't most key-locks open (yield) when you turn the key left and lock (stand) when you turn it right?
I'll lend poetic license to dagger, yet question what distinguishes the answer from similar mechanisms, i.e. grandfather clock or car door?
Sbuske, I agree with you. This was a very cleverly written riddle. The dagger was symbolic of the key. Just because no one was able to figure it out doesn't make this a bad riddle - it makes it a great riddle! Extremely clever - thanks for posting!
Very nice riddle. It sounds very poetic, too!
Oh, and to those who are frustrated at the key being referred to as a dagger: It's very common for riddles to refer to items in peculiar ways--symbolism within riddles often makes them more exciting, in my opinion
I've been picking locks in video games too much, hah!
Fun and challenging teaser; I had no idea what the answer was.
Outstanding! Classic riddle form. Wonderfully abstract. I had no idea. But, reading the riddle and visualizing... stab to heart - right and left... picture it... OH! There's the answer. Terrific, well written, difficult perfect riddle. Love it.
The commenters' love for the riddle makes me rethink, but I still don't really like it. A bit too obscure for my tastes. More like one of those Batman or Superman riddles.
A wine cork seems more appropriate; with the corkscrew as the dagger?
Daggers are usually sharp, keys are not.
