# Unreal Estate

FOR SALE - Beautiful triangular block of land available for immediate purchase. Located in well-established upmarket neighbourhood, with tree-lined streets. Near large shopping centre and school - THIS BLOCK MEASURES 50M X 32M X 18M - and would be ideal for the buyer who is looking for an unusual site to build a house. Would you buy this block of land?

### Hint

Think geometry!### Answer

You could not buy this block of land even if you wanted to! It doesn't exist. In a triangle, any two sides must always add up to MORE THAN the third side. But in this block, the sum of two sides (32M + 18M) EQUALS the third side (50M). So the "land" doesn't exist - it is a straight line!Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

What do you mean its a straight line?

Why is it for sale if it doesn't exsist?

WOuld it not be more "logical" that someone made a mistake measuring? Or a typo in the advertisment?

that is very strange and makes no sense!!!!!! why wud u add 32 and 18 together

what is math ??

In this teaser you have to know what a hypotenuse is. A hypotenuse is the longest side of a triangle. So Lable it as side C. The other two sides are called legs. They're labled A and B. Now you use the Pathagorean Therom: A squared + B squared = C squared. Then you dived C sqruared by the Hypotenuse.

Why is the room spinning?

Pythagorean Theorum is only used for RIGHT triangles, the teaser said nothing about a RIGHT triange. However, picture that you have three sticks with lengths of 5cm, 7cm, and 12 cm. Try to make a triangle out of those without breaking or bending them. It's not possible. This teaser made perfect sense, I thought it was pretty easy though.

O wise one, that isn't the pythagorean theorem. The pyh. theorem is a^2+b^2=c^2. A triangle is real when two sides from the triangle are added together, and their sum is greater than the remaining side. So, the land doesn't exist, howeve, it could be an innocent typo.
