or you could just draw a line through the '=' to make it 'not equals' (cop out answer, i know)
or ad a straight diagnal line on the "=" to make it not equal...
I'm sorry... I didn't see that someone had figured that out already...
no worries, i only posted that comment about 20 minutes ago!
one of my friends pointed that other solution out. that kinda makes it too easy! sigh. oh well...
way too easy, you should consider making it harder
No, I don't want to.
i got the same answer as bluetwo! nice job with the teaser! you fooled me!
Heard that one before.
This Teaser worked the proper way on my mind, at the time. I failed to really look at the equation and started to concoct fancy ways of figuring out this simple and very simple addition problem.
Good Work.
Good Work.
Good Teaser! Clever - I'm going to show that one to my grandchildren. I finally found one I won't have to call Auntiesis and have her explain to me.
i'm a rebel...i added the straight line to the SECOND +....remember, my way is ALWAYS the RIGHT way
Good one!
Gayle, you can call me any time. Tough puzzle, but fun.
This teaser was challenging in the process, but once you finally click on the answer it's like ohhhhhh! At first I didn't understand the question... maybe that should be corrected...

i also added a line throught the equal sign to make it not equals, oh well i guess i didn't think enough
ALTERNATE ANSWER: Place the single straight line as a left slant directly over the equals sign to form the inequality: 5 + 5 + 5 "is less than" 550 (I cannot insert the symbol correctly in this comment)
I also added a slanted straight line through the = sign to mean "not equal to" - good teaser.
Haha I added the line through "=" because 5+5+5 "is not equal to" 550
WOW... everyone got the same answer as me. slant line thro =... really it could be either. I though i was the only one who would get that.
The plus sign is so small a line through it hardly shows up to be a 4.
"Limited edition, let's do some simple addition"
I went with the "not equal" solution as well.
Very easy, because I've seen this countless times. Time for some new material.
You could do the same to the second +, that's how I did it.
I initially thought of the =thing as well, but I noticed that it said "to make the sum correct." A not-equal sign makes it accurate, but not correct. A little more thinking got me the right answer.
Cute bug, if you are around somewhere, thanks for yesterday's wish for both of us. However, I have my doubts about myself as I just turned 94 on the 17th. I wish many years ahead for you though. That was so nice of you.
That was confusing. It should be a replacement not an add.
I think it's only easy if you've seen it before - or if you happen to see it immediately; which few do! It's clever and fun.
I DON'T agree about the ≠sign - inequalities are not normally called 'sums'. The instruction requires making the sum correct.

I also added a slanted line to the equals sign!
Better solution than the stupid answer supplied; the + sign is too small to ever appear as a 4, by simply adding a slanted line?
