Hmm, looking back at this one. I think it's a bit too easy. I need to get tougher on some of these.
Easy but fun. Good Job!!
ditto what aranara89 said
maybe you should make the next one harder tho

Very educational and helpful to the english vocab.
not bad. i'm not planning to be cocky or anything, but when i saw DE and the pool, my mind jumped to the whole word. i just worked my way through to check...i agree with the others, maybe make it a tad more challenging.
Nice work, even if it is a bit easy.
Quite a simple one. I think when you say do not rearrange the letters, you meant only the first letter D.
Add the letters i thought meant add the letters to the existing. Did not know I could INSERT the letters. Its all good though!
Nice and Easy - GR8 4 Monday AM.
yqtbjkn is right. the instructions didn't make it clear you could insert letters, not just add them on at the end. but in order to solve the teaser, you had to conclude that that was allowable. so in a way, it was a sort of double teaser.
Easy, but good fun
Hints were way to easy, Instructions did not say each new combination was a word. I assumed it was. agree they should say insert one letter at a time
nice. i didn't realize you could separate the initial DE... ugh.
I agree with craniac, a bit deceptive but still a very good teaser. Thanks for posting.
Well don't I feel stupid after you all pointed out how easy it was for you!
I didn't understand the directions. I was trying to add one letter to the end each time. The phrase "do not rearrange the letters" made me think I was only adding one to the end.
No wonder I couldn't find a valid word from DE! I tried to go with DER.
DEP
DEV
DER

My apologies for the unclear directions. Even with this being #8 in a series, I had not before heard of confusion with the directions. I'll certainly be more clear in the future. Thanks for all the kind comments.
I don't know why, but I also was trying to only add a letter at the end. Looked so easy when I saw the answer.
Too easy by far. I had the final answer before I even had time to think about it, and the rest fell into place.
Easy but fun. I also worked from the bottom up. Thanks
this one was way too easy and if you can't rearrange the letters then they should start you off with the right order
Very easy but still fun.
I agree with scallio, the directions didn't make sense so here I was trying to make a word added one to DIVE and I just couldn't figure it out. I feel pleasantly stupid now.... thank you
To me the E on the end of Drive
is rearranging the letters. Could be wrong. Got the last word 1st.
Didn't get #5 due to drive.
Oh Well, it's late.
Thanks anyway

Scallio, don't feel bad, that's the

I still feel the instructions weren't exactly correct, just wanted you
to feel better. Certainly not
stupid.

Great teaser even if I didn't understand the instructions at first
Had to go to the Hint before I realized that I could Insert letters. Instructions should say to Insert letters but don't rearrange them once they're placed. Fun Teaser, though ... thanks for posting.

Wonderful. I absolutely love these. Good job!
FUN! Gave my brain something to do at school (yes I'm at school). Certainly nice to have something fun like this instead of type, type, TYPE!!!
Good puzzle. I enjoyed it and gave it top marks for fun.
Well, we are getting so few comments on TOTD that I guess my "Save The Braingle" campaign is a scratch.
doehead wrote in TOTD of a few days ago ("Planets" #26221)
WHO CARES !! (caps theirs, not mine)
Well .... I care ... I care very much about the health, survival, and growth of Braingle.
And if I and only a few other people care then I think that is very sad.
But give up I shall not.
Operations will be moved to my Oops!! teaser (#50284). Please join me there.
There should be plenty of room as - thus far - it has ZERO comments (except one of my own) and only 13 votes.
Let's talk about saving Braingle.

I got them all, but did not think I did because the instructions say not to rearrange the letters as you go. How can you not rearrange them and get the answer? Glad I am not the only one who said it. OMG Bunnee how do you think we have been playing Braingle all these years without your pushing us? Give it a rest!
I like this type of teaser, but I agree the instructions were vague. I saw "deprive" right away, and then played around with the words in the middle.
"OMG Bunnee how do you think we have been playing Braingle all these years without your pushing us?"
Believe me, Babe, I have not a clew. But if you're the only one left be sure to turn out the lights and turn off the teapot. You will have earned the privilege.

BadBunnee02, you state "Well .... I care ... I care very much about the health, survival, and growth of Braingle."
Yet, it would appear, based on a few comment directed at you, that you have shown up after several years away from the site, and a Babe pointed out, it has survived without you.
I have said, and stand by my comments, that just because people are not commenting, does not mean they are not on the site and taking quizzes or playing games.
I know for certain, there have been 1000s of teasers submitted since this one was (SEVEN years ago). In my opinion, that is part of what is leading to the decline and participation. Why would I comment on something I commented on 3,4, or 5 years ago?
I have seen numerous incidents of quizzes and teasers that have been ued over and over and over again as TOTD (and often on the same day each year).
People may be more apt to comment if they saw some new material.
I have had a couple of my quizzes featured, and I don't really care if any of them is ever used, but in the 3.5 years I have been on here, I have written almost 100 quizzes, many others have done the same, so it is not as if there ISN'T new material from which to choose the teaser/quiz of the day.
Also, I have refrained from commenting on several teasers/quizzes that I may have otherwise done, as I resent being told to do so by the "Prodigal Braingler" who shows up out of nowhere after many years away and starts to try take over.
Who appointed you, the saviour of braingle? This conversation has been going on in the forums, games and TBs for a while now (long before you poked you nose out of the rabbit hole).
There is a lot more to Braingle than just the teasers (which seems to be where you spend your time), and lots of those areas are doing fine. Maybe a it slow at times, but at this time of year, with college and university in he middle of exams and HS getting ready to start them, it makes sense a lot of people have more important things to do

I agree with a few others...quite simple despite the incorrect instructions.
further, I have gone back to the last 14 QOTD and you have commented on exactly NONE of them. Apparently, quizzes are not your favorite part of Braingle, has it occurred to you, that there are people who likewise do not like the teasers? There are always people in chat, the TBs are getting several posts a day, and the games are bbeing played. You can't save the site by concentrating all your efforts on only one place.
Oh, and as far as the teaser is concerned, I had no problems with the instructions, and found it quite solvable by working back from the final answer.
I'm afraid I skipped the middle, just did the final- I wish I'd been more thorough, but I guess I'm blaming it on my Monday self I did enjoy it. I don't mind old teasers, since I don't tend to retain them!
I will say 2 things;
1 The teaser was quite easy.
2 Habs is right on today with her remarks.

Enjoyed the teaser even though it was very easy. Directions could have been clearer, but I figured it out anyway.
Thank you, Habs, for your extensive reply and analysis.
"You can't save the site by concentrating all your efforts on only one place."
I never said otherwise. Those are your words. At least I'm making an effort in one significant area.
Perhaps the best single indicator (if there is one) of this problem is the "Online Now" report toward the bottom of screens.
The "Online" count (members + visitors) has been slowly declining for years. And the decline is linear (that means the graph is relatively smooth and absent the peaks/valleys that you mention might - episodically - explain the paucity of "comments" in any one single area).
I can remember when the count was consistently in the high 700-800's and often above 1000. Has not been above 1000 in YEARS.
I guess we'll have to wait a few more years before we know FOR SURE things are beyond redemption.
What's the saying ?
"People who won't take warning certainly won't take heed."
At least I've got a few people talking about the issue - you included.

Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back BB.
You are not the only one who has been discussing this - there is an entire thread in one of the TBs to which I belong lamenting this very issue and what can be done about it.
The in game discussions of many recent WWG and WTB games have alo noted the slow down on getting games started, even with popular mods.
These discussions have been going on for several months now.

I guessed the word in one (1) second.
This is another of those puzzles that, in the absence of a specific restriction on rearranging the letters as they are added, has more than one solution. Here's a solution that, without such a restriction, is different from the one offered,:
DE
RED
RIDE
DIVER
DERIVE
DEPRIVE
DE
RED
RIDE
DIVER
DERIVE
DEPRIVE
Sorry, junior level; took all of 2 seconds?
I don't think it said that each line had to be a separate word, did it? So, the rule about "not rearranging letters" doesn't even matter, since you could just add letters on without worrying that they wouldn't be an actual word.
Not so hard, but pretty fun. Nice job!
