What expression is this?
Playing a game of poker with only 50 cards.
Playing a game of Gin Rummy with only 49 cards.
Playing a game of poker with only 50 cards.
Playing a game of Gin Rummy with only 49 cards.
Answer
"Not playing with a full deck."Explanation: Each game is played with a deck of cards (52). In this case, each game is missing a couple of cards; therefore the players are "not playing with a full deck."
This is one of the many derogatory phrases that emerged in the 1980s which allude to someone 'having a bit missing', 'not all there', etc. The implication being that the victim of the insult lacked intelligence.

Ok, I am sorry I posted that comment. I wasn't thinking and I guess I was a bit angry. The truth is, I like all your other teasers a lot and I guess this one just wasn't as good as the others and I'm just sorry.
Really good teaser! Thanks
It looks like people have voted against your comments. You were removed. Maybe next time you'll think about what you have to say. Remember, they are only TEASERS for children to adults. There is no need to get personal.
Thank you for deleting that comment. I really wasn't thinking when I posted it. Sorry.
I didn't remove the teaser. The editors did.
A wee bit obvious, maybe?
a touch easy but nicely done
love the little explanation at the end!
Thanks guys
Fun teaser.
After checking the answer I was surprised to see that the saying started in the 1980's.
did some research, and I found the site that you quoted, but I also researched this with my father and an uncle...they think the saying has been around for far longer than 1980. Maybe it just became more popular then.

Jayjay, you might be right and probably are. I was surprised when the website suggested the 1980s too!
We have better turns of phrase which mean the same thing, but am certain would not be cleared by the editors because these expressions are Australian, and we seem to be a minority in the grand scheme of things!
"Not the full two bob!"
"A sandwich short of a picnic!"
"The light's on, but no-one is home!"
"As bright as a 2-watt globe".
...and I could go on!
