Brain Teasers
Two Jacks
"Do you always believe what you see?" asked Snorkel, taking four cards from a regular pack of playing cards and discarding the rest. "What do you mean?" replied Twanger. Snorkel showed Twanger his four cards : an ace, a three, a ten and a jack. After secretly arranging them in a certain order, he dealt them face down in a line on the table. "I've seen this trick before!" cried Twanger. "You want me to tell you where the jack is." "The jack!" exclaimed Snorkel. "There are two jacks in these four cards." How is it possible and where are they in the four face-down cards?
Answer
The ace, three, ten and jack correspond to the numbers 1, 3, 10 and 11. As alphabetic positions, these give A, C, J and K which can be rearranged to form the word JACK. This is one of the jacks, and the other must be in the last position of the four cards.Hide Answer Show Answer

I thought it was because the jack has two heads. Like all face cards.
this one is pretty clever.
I also thought he was talking about the two faces on a jack
That was very clever...
interesting teaser.
I added the 10 and the ace together to make 11 - a jack - Good one.
v.clever
clever but impossible 2 solve..........a hint should have been given.

I agree with jasin a hint should have been available it was a bit of a long winded way around to find the answer
What does the c stand for? Card? And the k?
Oh, never mind, i get it now. Yeah, there should have been a hint provided.
You *must* be kidding. I've seen stuff with obscure answers before, but this one really took the cake.
And I agree with everyone else that a hint would have made things remotely possible.

i didn't get it, but it's quite clever -- too hard for most though! and the idea about the two jacks on each card is very clever!!! so really there are 3 jacks!! It is a gd1 neway!! =¬S
nice one
im likin this one, its quite hard but i dont think a hint should have been given cos then people would have complained it was too easy! nice one.
I get it! The numbers are 1,3,10,and 11. A is the first letter in the alphabet, so 1 is A. C is the third letter, so C=3. J=10, and 11=K. That spells "JACK"
very clever, well thought out, THIS IS ONE GOOD TEASER!
eachs card should have two of its symbols so there would have been two little jack heads on the card.
I didn't like it.. I don't think i would have been pleased by a friend showing me a second JACK only based on "association of cards to alphabet letters." This is a pretty disappointing solution.
I didn't get the answer but I like it because it satisfies the stated conditions. One Jack (card) and the other spelled out by the numbers. Actually there was a couple of clues given by the question asking for the postion of the jacks and the arragement in a secret way, so it had to be something to do with the order. Very Good!

Never wouldv'e gotten that. Kinda have to think outside the box.
That was pretty hard...i liked that one!!!
one jack could alos be face up
ALSO***
well i didn't manage to get the position of the cards correct. however, when i play cards with my sisters we assign the face cards a value of ten (with the ace the highest at 11). this meant that i thought that the "ten" referred to in the teaser could also have been a jack, hence there being two jacks.
I thought this was a good trick, even though it was very hard...I also thought the answer was the two heads on the Jack card.
its easy
Ahh, I think the answer could do with being improved as I had to read the comments to understand what was going on.
Wow! That's amazing! Never thought of that...I'll have to try it out.
That's really cool, I liked that one a lot. Good job!
Really there are three jacks!! The two you mentioned, and add the ace and ten together to get 11 which is a jack
its ok...
Very clever! I thought it was because of the two faces on the Jack card.
I didn't get it, never would have figured it out. Good trick teaser. Thanks for posting.
Very clever. Keep it up!
This shouldn't even be in the trick category
Great teaser! Completely astounded me! (I thought the guys real name was Jack) I think it should by more of a "riddle" category teaser though.
