Brain Teasers
No Big Deal
After you have dealt about half of the 52 cards for a bridge game (with four players), the phone rings. You put down the undealt cards to answer the phone. When you return, none of the cards has been touched, and no one can remember where the last card was dealt. Without counting the cards in any hand, or the number of cards yet to be dealt, how can you finish dealing rapidly and accurately, giving each player exactly the same cards they would have received if you hadn't been interrupted?
Answer
Deal from the bottom of the deck, starting with yourself and deal backwards (which should be counterclockwise). Since the only thing you really know is that you would have received the last card, this is what you need for a starting point.Hide Answer Show Answer

Very clever I will have to remember that when I next play cards. it's so simple but not so obvious.
That's pretty good!
why do you have to do it from the bottem?
If you are dealing a full deck of cards to four players, you will get the bottom card (because 52 is divisible by 4 evenly). Since you forgot where you left off, you don't know who to give the top card to. Therefore, the only thing you really know is that you will get the bottom card, the person to your right will get the card that is second from the bottom, and on and on.
i dont get it!
...what?
Sorry, folks, but I'm not sure how to explain it any better. The dealer always gets the last card, the person to the right of the dealer gets the second-to-last card, etc.
good one.
That's smart!!! Wouldn't of got that =]
I didn't even come close to the answer! good one. But the answer makes sense though.
