Answer
The North Star (Polaris)Polaris, commonly referred to as the North Star, is the brightest star in the constellation of Ursa Minor, and is very close to the north celestial pole.
Ursa Minor, which is Latin for "Lesser Bear", is also called the Little Bear. The tail of the Little Bear may also be considered as the handle of a ladle, which is why it also has the North American name "Little Dipper".
line 1: This line refers to a bear, which has "curled" (or curved) claws.
line 2: The phrase "the top of the world" refers to the North Pole.
line 3: As stated above, the North Star is found in Ursa Minor or Little Bear, also known as the Little Dipper, the tail of which may be seen as the handle of a ladle.
line 4: The North Star has traditionally been important for maritime navigation. Hence, "mariner's chart" refers to a sailor's star chart.
line 5: The phrase "black canopy" refers to the night sky, and "pearled" means scattered with stars.
