Brain Teasers
The Cannon and the Tower
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A cannon is on display at a museum, pointed directly at the main support leg of a very rickety watch tower. The cannon is so unstable that the slightest jolt will set it off. A very fat person wants to have a closer look at the cannon, so he runs towards the cannon and crashes into it. What will happen to the tower?
Answer
Unless the fat person also crashes into the tower, nothing will happen to it. If a cannon is on display at a museum, it won't be loaded.Hide Answer Show Answer

Inspired by the Simpsons episode "The PTA Disbands."
D'oh. If the cannon is not loaded, then how can it be "set off"? As a situation, I thought maybe we were supposed to come up with a reasonable interpretation of the "facts" presented, but that was not the case. Maybe if I'd seen the Simpson's episode this would have been entertaining. I'm not a huge fan of this one, but I tend to love the Kid's puzzles. Keep 'em coming!
I guess I'm just better at logic puzzles than situation puzzles. However my first logic grid puzzle is in the queue, as well as my first probability puzzle, the first in seven years.
I think this belongs under Trick rather than Situation.
