Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
Before a final time elapse
There will have been at least two gaps
During gaps, folks time they're biding
While a dozen halt their sliding
When a certain red line is crossed
It means that you may have just lost
A masked man sometimes saves the day
Stopping projectiles aimed his way
The appearance of a red light
Brings both vexation and delight
What am I?

Answer
the game of (ice) hockeylines 1-2: There are at least three periods of play in hockey, with zero or more overtime periods, depending on the league's/tournament's regulations. Therefore, there are "at least two gaps" or intermissions, between periods.
lines 3-4: During the "gaps" or intermissions, the fans, or "folks", are waiting for the next period to begin. At this time, the players, twelve or "a dozen" of them on the ice during play, take a rest, and therefore "halt their sliding" i.e. stop skating.
lines 5-6: If a puck crosses the goal line which is red, then a goal has been scored. If this happens in overtime, then your team "may have just lost" the game.
lines 7-8: The "masked man" (or woman) is the goaltender, who wears a mask for protection. The "projectiles" are pucks shot by the opposing team. S/he "sometimes saves the day" by preventing these pucks from entering the net, thereby making saves, enabling your team to win the game.
lines 9-10: When a goal is scored, "a red light" behind the goaltender's net is turned on. This is met with celebration for some, and with chagrin for others.

As a hockey fan this was pretty straight forward.
I got this one from the first two lines. Easy? Yeah. Wonderful? Yeah. For any who minimize this as a trivial easy riddle, I challenge you to write a rhyming ten line riddle about hockey, especially rhyming words like "elapse". It has wonderful idiomatic references like crossing red lines and protection from masked men (Lone Ranger?). All of the references to hockey are indirect, yet this riddle is clearly about hockey. That is because it is so well done.
I usually see how TFFs teaser titles relate to the teaser. Why Mixed Reaction?
Ah, both vexation and delight. That's the mixed reaction. I'm done discussing with myself now.
Thanks for your comments.
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got it fairly quickly although I am not a hockey fan.
Thanks mrbill51. Glad you liked it!
That was really good. I think I've given you negative comments on others for the references being too obscure or non-sensical (in my opinion), but this one was spot on. Every line made perfect sense after seeing the answer (I didn't get it, unfortunately).
Really great job.
Really great job.
