Piece It Together 2
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
My first can deliver a sting
My second's green in the fall and spring
Without my third you'd not see a thing
My fourth is a structural wing
My fifth may assist your swing
What word am I?

My fifth may assist your swing
What word am I?
Answer
the word "built"The ordinals (i.e. first, second, third, fourth, and fifth) refer to the ordinal positions of the letters of the answer word "built" (i.e. "b", "u", "i", "l", and "t" respectively). These letters have the same sound as the words described by each clue, as follows:
Line 1: first letter - b/bee - A bee can "sting" you.
Line 2: second letter - u/yew - A yew stays "green" year round.
Line 3: third letter - i/eye - You wouldn't "see a thing" without an eye.
Line 4: fourth letter - l/ell - An ell is an extension or "wing" of a building.
Line 5: fifth letter - t/tee - This clue refers to a golf tee, which may help you with "your swing".

I assume since there were no comments that this is a new riddle. If that's correct, bravo, Braingle!! I never see new riddles here, and I always felt there should be more vs. recycled ones.
As for the riddle, itself, I wasn't a huge fan, but maybe that's just because I didn't know what an ell was. Also, the yew clue would've been better if it said something like being green in "both winter and spring" since it's green year round. The clue, to me, make it seem like it was something that was only green in fall and spring. Maybe I read into it too much, though.
All that said, congrats for getting a riddle published.
Hopefully others found it better than I did.

Thanks for your feedback, Livigs. This teaser was published back in May of this year. For those of you who enjoyed this one, I have three others like it so far, the titles of which all begin with "Piece It Together". To find them, you can use the following link, entering "Piece It Together" in the "TITLE" box, and then pressing "Search": https://www.braingle.com/brainteasers/search.php
I'm with "Livigs" on this one; managed to solve it, only by process of elimination:
B..i..t ?
Funilly enough, I had "U"( for undergrowth ) as the 2nd( not familiar with either: yew or ell )?
Regardless, it was so nice to see a fresh teaser, thanks Thinks!
I might even look up your others?

Fun and entertaining teaser. I got it fairly quickly but still enjoyed the challenge.
Thanks for your comments.
