You are one of many young men claiming the right to the throne. A simple test is devised to see who will become King. If you pass the test you will be King, however, if you fail, you will lose your life. Three caskets are placed in front of you, a gold casket, a silver casket and a lead casket. Two of these caskets contain a skull and cross bones representing death, while the other contains the King's crown. Each casket has an inscription.
Gold- Who chooseth me shall gain what many men desire.
Silver- Who chooseth me shall get as much as he deserves.
Lead- Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath.
Which casket leads to death, which leads to glory, your fate is in your own hands!
Gold- Who chooseth me shall gain what many men desire.
Silver- Who chooseth me shall get as much as he deserves.
Lead- Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath.
Which casket leads to death, which leads to glory, your fate is in your own hands!
Answer
If you chose the gold casket you were wrong as:'All that glisters is not gold,
Often have you heard that told;
Many a man his life hath sold
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgment old,
Your answer had not been inscrolled
Fare you well, your suit is cold.'
If you chose the silver casket you were wrong as:
'The fire seven times tried this;
Seven times tried that judgment is
That did never choose amiss.
Some there be that shadows kiss;
Such have but a shadow's bliss;
There be fools alive, I wis'
Silvered over, and so was this.
If you chose the leaden casket you would be King as:
'You that choose not by the view,
Chance as fair and choose as true!
Since this fortune falls to you,
Be content and seek no new.'

brutal teaser.. worst I've read.
Straight out of Portia's test in the Merchant of Venice -
but there, at least, the penalty for a wrong guess
was lifelong bachelorhood, not death. The verses
go better with the original setup, I think.

The Answer you gave is almost impossible to figure out, unless you know about the merchant of Venice. I thought of the answer I different (cornier) way.
Gold- You get what many men desire, the gold. But inside is something different, NOT what you want...
Silver- You die. That's what you deserve.
Lead- The others are ruled out, so this is it, right?
It also works..

ooh this was really tricky, good one!
It was kinda stupied! Maybe thats because I didn't get it.............................
hmmm...no offence, but i dont think this is a very good teaser...i mean, u really cant get the answer unless u've read the merchant of venice. plus, instinct usually tells u that of course, the lead box will be the answer cuz that's now it is in most stories...maybe if u reworded it...
as a stand-alone teaser it does not work as the clues in the question do not lead to the answers.
