Brain Teasers
Lack of Intelligence
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A young boy failed an exam. He usually did well in school. Everyone knew that he was extremely intelligent, but surprisingly his demanding and harsh mother apparently said the opposite and sadly insisted that he was dumb. A professor who had seen the boy's previously high test scores was outraged and said, "You're gonna let your own mother call you dumb!?" The boy, who had written many impressive essays and was usually opinionated, surprisingly said nothing and continued to sit and look depressed.
Why didn't the boy respond and what kind of exam did he fail?

That was cool and fun but a bit too easy. But it was good
I'm sorry it was so "dumb" clarkone. I wrote the teaser differently without so many hints but they changed it when it was accepted. So I am truly sorry if everyone wasted their time or whatever. But 4real........why are people so hostile around here? I mean really is it that serious? It's just an amatuer brain teasers website
U div, clark! u aint even dun ne teasers urself...wats the point of cummin on here if ur gnna jus diss evry1 elses. At least the got an ounce of brain power to actually get a teaser on here. The title says a lot bout u. Good teaser Jase
Ignore it, empty vessels make the most noise! The new feature where you can rate peoples commetns as good or bad will soon show that this kind of insulting diatrad is not wanted. Good teaser, hvaing worked with special needs kids I know that the phrase 'you are dumb' can be mistaken by some kids and this is a well constructed teaser on that point.
Hey, I thought this was fairly clever and well written!
I thought it was clever. I've seen it before, but didn't get it the first time I saw it. (and this is despite the fact that I've read many a mystery that uses that same dumb/mute equation)
And dumbell - it's diatribe (sorry, I'm a picky speller...)

The teaser was well written, but has one major flaw. The teacher (a young boy with a professor?) cannot fail the boy on an oral exam if the student cannot speak. It is against the law. Reasonable accommodations must be made for a student with a disability. And being that he is described as a young boy, and his mother is aware of the disability, his school and therefore his teacher should have been aware as the parents would have told them. And the boy was well known to the teacher as he knew of his high test scores.
Gee whiz, its just a teaser, its s'ppose to be in fun. I thought it was clever and witty
Clever teaser! I missed it but thought it was really fun!
I thought he failed a hearing test...
Great teaser! Sad, though.
I know this is a very old post for this one but I liked it and I didn't think of the reason why. I need to do more brain teasers and really think them through n through. I give up to easily I thought this was a very good teaser.
Sorry that I wasn't able to figure out a very easy one. It was well done also.

I didn't get it the first time, but after looking at the answer, I understood. This was a very clever and well-written teaser.
Clever! I was puzzled at first but eventually got it, which is the sort I like.
