Brain Teasers
Funeral.....
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
I heard this teaser this weekend from a medical student. Apparently, they ask this question to people to know if they are psychopaths. If you can answer it right away, you may have bizarre tendencies. You have all the elements to answer it, you don't have to elaborate complex theories. Ok, here it comes:
A young girl is at her mother's funeral. She meets a young man she had never seen before, but who's there as a part of family. She instantly falls in love with him. A few days after, she kills her sister. Why?

Remember, you have all the elements of the problem in your hands.Answer
She only wanted to see the young man again, assuming he would show up at her own sister's funeral. Are you a psychopath? :)

i just sent in this question, they said it hadnt been put up yet, they said i had to wait a week. the answer here is all wrong and so is the question. geez.
Well, I'm sorry, that's how i've learned it.. what was the "real" answer??
I'm finally glad I couldn't get the answer to a situation puzzle! ;)
she could of killed her sister because she was married/dating him
I think the young girl is a psycopath... and making it a soap opera where her sister was having an affair with that man sounds like a good idea. nice teaser.
u got most of it, but the guy isnt there as family. she falls in love with him, but she never gets his name or number. She killed her sister so she could see him again...the answer is, he is a funeral director, so if she killed her sister she would be able to see him again, as he would be at the funeral. Makes more sense.
I think bmotts was totally correct in his question. If the man was the funeral director he could have been easily tracked down and wouldn't necessarily be directing the sister's funeral. After wading through tonnes of these situation teasers it's a joy to come across a good one like this as opposed to some of the rubbish they allow.
Thank guys for your comments... Mjs Kitten, yes your makes sense too, but i don't think mine is so bad... cause as a part of unknown family, the sister assumed she would see him again.. she was not even sure, she just took a chance, and killer her sister! how rude!
i have heard a different answer when the wonam killed her sister coz she waz married 2 da man and she wanted him and could only get him if da sister waz dead, or somthing like that.
That was awesome and totally sick. But cool. Hope u made more
Okay so whats the accuracy on the psychopath part? lol that was a good teaser i thought it might be the womans father so killed her sis so no one knew who he was. But i think that has even more bizarre intendencies!!!
I heard this one not long ago! If you answered it by saying that the woman killed her sister to see the man again at her funeral, you are said to have psychopathic qualities.
But if you answered it by saying that the woman killed her sister because the man she fell in-love with was her sister’s new boyfriend, you are said to be normal.

Maybe I AM a psychopath.. I thought perhaps she found out the man had turned out to be a man who had an affair with her mother, and really fathered her. If I fell in love with a man who turned out to be my biological father, I'd kill myself, and in a way, that makes my killing my sister.. perhaps? Very "Jerry Springer"-like...

Fine,so she did it to see the young man, or the funeral director, she still murdered just to see a man again--whacko!!! I don't really see a big difference, here.
nor me really

ACTUALLY.....AS A FUNERAL DIRECTOR OR A PART OF THE FAMILY....HER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE MAN WOULD HAVE BEEN SIMPLE EITHER WAY...WHY WOULDN'T SHE JUST ASK AROUND HER FAMILY WHO THE MAN WAS WITH THE INTENTION OF GETTING TO KNOW HER FAMILY BETTER??? SAME WITH THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR...SHE WOULD HAVE SIMPLY STOPPED INTO THE PARLOR AND SAID SHE WANTED TO THANK THE MAN WHO PUT HER MOTHER'S FUNERAL TOGETHER SO WELL.....
I would have thought that the man was her father and she got the big P and had to kill her "sister"
its pretty nasty that the girl had sex with her cousin. oh yeah and magas009 i dont know if you noticed but the girl was a psychopath

hey jucy-lu, you got it the other way around. If you said she killed her sister because her sister was in love with the man you have psychopathic qualities.

I first saw this question in an email, and I love it just as much seeing it here. The pure simplicity of the answer is the beauty of the teaser. It is a very obvious answer, but luckily, one most people don't think of.
well if theres a bad phsychopathic murder teaser i havent heard it
WOAH! I got the answer right! actually i heard this same situation in a Urban Legend book...according to the book this exact same situation was said to be a true story!
ugh... not another urban legened here...
LOL! I thought the sister was in love! You forgot one element, can only see him in funerals...
I got it right, does that mean I'm a pyschopath?
i think everyone needs to start backing away from timber_wolf slowly...
I thought she found out that her sister was dating the guy... oh well, at least i'm not yet that psychopatic, I would simply ask around though i will TRY not to be so obvious
Ok Broken, this is ur second offense, one more is ur third strike and I will report you!!!!!!!!!!
Why was he at the funeral? She should kill someone she doesn`t know instead of her family!
Actually I think I am a phyco-path because I got the exact answer. Whoa I need help.
Hey I got it right, I'm a PHYSCOPATH!
YAY! I'm a psychopath too!!
I tried to post this one up, but it had already been posted... oh well.
When my friend told me this one, I got it right. I guess that makes me a psychopath?

I thought her sister was her identical twin and she didn't want the man to fall in love with her sister.
i too
It's a clever puzzle. Suppose you were told it differently - a woman is at an engagement party when this happens. She then immediately bribes a relative to stage a fake engagement party. (That's not very good, but you could work out some similar scenario.) You would probably have no difficulty at all in guessing what she is up to - we're in standard romantic comedy territory. But killing her sister is so shocking that you are much less likely to see the same logic. That's why it suggests a psychopath - thinking in terms of cool practical logic without seeing other people's lives as having any special value.
