Brain Teasers
A Bell Rings
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A bell rings, a man cries. A bell rings, a man dies. What happened?
Answer
A man takes his blind friend swimming. The seeing man stands on the shore with a handbell to ring so that the blind man can find his way back to shore if he starts getting too far out. There is a buoy with a bell on it floating out far from shore. The blind man hears the buoy's bell and thinks it's his friend's bell so he follows the sound- further out in the water. The friend on shore sees what is happening and begins shouting and ringing his bell furiously. The blind man becomes exhausted out near the buoy and drowns.A bell rings (the bell on the buoy)
a man cries (the seeing man cries as in shouting out, not sadness crying)
A bell rings (the bell of the seeing man)
a man dies (the blind swimmer)

ok, this is kind of weird. good job, i guess...
maybe you should have a hint somewhere.
Who would have though of that???
Who would have though of that???
No one is ever going to guess something that contrived. Glad I didn't spend too much time trying to solve it.
This one isn't too hard if you have a hint, I agree. I've heard it before though, thanks for the reminder!
OK blind people dont swim for the very reason he died... they will lose sense of direction and drown even with bells... i though the bells of heaven were ringing and he cried because he knew he would die soon then they rang again and he died......
the whole blind-man-and-bell thing is sorta old.
Awesome!
for all the people who are saying that this can't be figured out or needs a hint look at the definition of situation teasers.
Ridiculous
I honestly think braingle situation teasers need to be classified into two categories- one which you can only get by the prescribed question-answer method as given in the definition, and the other which has enough hints in the question itself to figure it out. I'm new here and I don't know where to send this suggestion so please tell me!!! And this teaser was actually nice! I loved it.
i thought the awnser was it was a church bell at a funeral a bell rings a man cries (someone is dead so he is sad) a bell rings a man dies (man that was dead at funeral)
Um, sorry but that was very obscure
Yeah tis one was a little out there, but interesting I guess. In your answer explanation summary (the last four lines), don't you have it out of order? The two bell ringing lines should be reversed, if I understand correctly.
I like it but I think the bell could also be on a ship.
