The Great Sale
If you had a coupon for 20% off any item in the store and you wanted to purchase a jacket that originally cost a hundred dollars that was now advertized as 40% off, how much would that jacket be?
Answer
48 dollars. 40% off of 100 is minus 40 dollars from the price which makes it 60. Then the 20% off the 60 dollars makes it 48 dollars.Hide Answer Show Answer

This works fine in theory, but in reality most stores mark up the price 10% to 50% before a sale and then mark down the price to the discounted sale price.
Also some stores will not take coupons on sale items.
