Snapsism Pairs
A word is said to be a snapsism of another word if it fits the following criteria:
1. it contains the same number of letters as the other word;
2. it does not have any of the same letters in the same position as the other word;
3. each letter of the word can be swapped into the other word, one at a time, so that other words are produced.
eg. MAD is a snapsism of BET, with the three resulting words being:
Met
bAt
beD
However, MAT is not a snapsism of BET as both words have "t" as the third letter.
A snapsism pair is formed when two words are snapsisms of each other.
eg. BET and PIG are a snapsism pair, producing the words:
Pet
bIt
beG
Big
pEg
piT

How about SIX (Fix, sAx, siT and Sat, fIt, faX)?
I could argue that sax and fax aren't acceptable because they are abbreviations but that's not one of the criteria. I was thinking of having more criteria (no abbreviations, proper nouns, etc.) but it was getting too long. Good pick up Gizzer.
good 1
If abbreviations, proper nouns, and slang
are acceptable, you could add big (fig, bag, bit, bat, fit, fag),
MIR (fir, mar, MIT, mat, fit, far),
mix (fix, max, MIT, mat, fit, fax),
and perhaps pix (fix, pax, pit, pat, fit, fax)
to the list. Of the possible questionable words,
I believe fag is British slang for a cigarette (as
well as the derogatory meaning), MIR is the former
Soviet space station, MIT is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
max is a well-accepted abbreviation for maximum,
Pix is a headline abbreviation for pictures,
and Pax is an airline abbreviation for passengers.
I don't think fax is even questionable, as it has
by now entered the language as both an adjective and
verb in its own right.

Looks like I missed quite a few... Don't know how that happened. Next time I'm adding more criteria.
Bag would work too.
Uhh, fish, fat and bag both have the same second letter so they can't be snapsisms of each other.
Good teaser. Pretty challenging.
