How do you get milk from magnesia if it's metal then?
I'm pretty sure milk of magnesia is a compound of milk that has part magnesia in it. Remember that when separate elements are chemically combined they can take on very different forms. 'Ordinary' old table salt is the classic example (that I know my science teacher loved to use) as it is made up of a highly reactive metal (Sodium) and an extremely poisonous gas (Chloride), it's chemical name being Sodium Chloride.

I don't think milk of magnesia has actually milk in it. I think that the term milk is used more as a lingoistic descriptor, like tonic. It looks like milk, so that's what it's called.
