Brain Teasers
Hello, Mr. Smith
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Arthur Smith and his secretary Carol fell in love and got married. One day, Arthur came home early from a business trip to see Carol. When he saw her, she was very pleased to see him, but she addressed him as Mr. Smith, which she had not done for a long time. Why?
Hint
Nobody was having an affair.Unfortunate circumstances had caused Arthur to come home early.
Answer
Carol had had brain surgery. Arthur was visiting her in the hospital. The surgery had damaged Carol's memory; she remembered Arthur as her boss, but did not remember their marriage.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Do you mean sad as in unfortunate or sad as in a really pathetic teaser?
I agree. Try harder next time.
That's not logical
Do you really think that someone could work all of that out from the clues give?
cool, but is quite tough to get
i thought it was said in an affectionate way as part of remembering their marriage (many couples after they're married start doing the "well hello mrs smith, well hello mr smith" thing, i thought that it was an anniversary, so they were commemorating)
Too many answers, and none of the logical ones would be that.
actually I read a similar true story in Reader's Digest once, so got the answer straight away.
People need to shut up and realize that most situation teasers are best done in a group where one person knows the answer.
Well, I agree with jimbo
