Duffus Goes Fishing
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Duffus Mcclutski loved to fish, but he was always afraid that his boat would tip over and he'd fall in the lake. He wasn't afraid of drowning, just of taking an unplanned bath. So Duffus thought of a plan. He got into his boat, with his new cordless drill, and started out onto the lake. After hours of pain and effort he arrived at his favored location, about 10 meters off shore by a little island. Duffus then pulled out his drill attached his 5" hole saw and drilled a hole through the bottom of his boat (Duffus was never the sharpest tool in the shed though he did often cut himself on that tool, but that's another teaser.) After catching his limit of fish he rowed back to shore with almost no water in his boat. With a 5" hole in the bottom of his boat why didn't it fill with water and sink?
Hint
It took him hours to get 10m or 30 ft. Why?Answer
The boat didn't sink because the lake was frozen. That's why it took him hours to get 10 meters.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

if itz to long make it shorter
I dont think it's too long but I don't understand how he rowed a boat on a frozen lake
That's why it took him 10 hours to go about 100 feet.
But why did he drill the hole in the boat?
He drilled the hole to go ice fishing in his boat- right?
same question as jimbo
how is a fish only five inches big?
yeah i'm confused by the desire to drill a hole in his own boat...drilling it in the ice i can understand (even if you phrased it so it sounded like he was drilling the boat).
oh god now i don't know if i'm making sense - im' too tired

This is rather... odd.
I sort of liked this one but maybe it needs a little adjustment. I couldn't understand why he drilled a hole in the boat - I thought maybe he was tying an anchor? It seems to mean that he was drilling it for the ice, so is it a clue to the main question?
I guessed that it was a catamaran and so the hole was between the outriggers and not affecting the flotation.
Overall as I said I liked it but I still feel confused!
