Mr. Smith weighs 250 pounds. Ms. Katie weighs 100 pounds. Mr. Ron weighs 150 pounds. The elevator they need to ride only holds 300 pounds. They must all get to the top floor of the building. There must be an operator in the elevator at all times. How do they do it?

That's just silly. Why does there need to be an operator in the elevator at all times? Why not just get out, and let it come back to you using the up button like how it always works. Or how else would they have even got to the elevator?
Why is there need for an operator. The two lighter people should just go up and get off and then Mr Smith just presses the button and the elevator comes back down to him.

The people asking about the elevator operators.... back in the old days when elevators were first invented there weren't just up and down buttons. watch titanic and you'll kinda see what is meant by this
