The Music Stopped
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
The music stopped. The woman died. How and why?
Hint
You would look up to her.Answer
The woman was a blindfolded tight rope walker in the circus. It was worked out with the circus band to keep playing until she reached the other side. One night, by accident, the band leader stopped prematurely. The woman thought she was at the other end and she stepped off of the rope.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

I completely agree with Mark on this one.
That would not work even if they gave you all of the facts. Any sane person (excluding the person who wrote this riddle) would be able to tell that they were not on the other side yet! There is a big difference between a rope and a platform.
I heard the puzzle as:
The music stopped. She died. He knew he had killed her.
The music stopped. She died. He knew he had killed her.
Okay,so I didn't read the answer. By asking yes or no questions, the guesser should arrive at the following answer:
The woman is a blindfolded trapeze artist at the circus. The man is a calliope player who is supposed to give the woman musical cues. When the music stops, she is supposed to let go of the swing so her partner can catch her. The music stops too soon, and she falls to her death.

That is a totally random answer. You might as well say she had a car accident and the radio stopped playing. Nothing in the given teaser bears any resemblance to your answer.
Situation teasers should have complicated clues and a simple answer, not the other way around.
i agree with jimbo
I've heard this one many times, and it is just *too* vague, I'm afraid.
'The music stopped' - classical? Orchestral? Modern? What? What was it playing with? any of these could make a difference. If it is orchestral she might be at an opera, and, oh, I don't know, the musicians attacked her with their instruments?
They can't do both at the same time!

It seems I read somewhere that it's now required to use safety nets anywhere life or limb would be in danger, perhaps OSHA?
I will spare you all from my speech on how old this teaser is. I saw it in two books and several websites. I don't think the person who wrote this teaser thought of it on his/her own; it is way too strange and uncommon to have been a random idea...
I agree with jimbo.
I figured that she was playing extreme musical chairs - if you don't get a seat, you get a bullet to the brain.
