Brain Teasers
Halloween
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
It was Halloween night. An evil goblin kidnapped some children who were out trick-or-treating and gave them the option of how they would die. They could either have their brains eaten by worms, be buried alive in a mass grave or tossed into a pit of poisonous snakes. If any of them survived, they would then be set free. One especially bright child thought of the choice that saved them all. Which one would you choose and why?
Answer
Being "buried alive" would give them their best chance of escape. The bright child reasoned that as long as the goblin didn't use dynamite or a magic spell to bury them it would probably use an ordinary shovel. It's impossible to bury someone alive with a shovel if they're conscious and in reasonably good health. All the children had to do was tramp down the earth being shoveled down on them and slowly climb up higher and higher on the growing mound of soil until they reached the top of the grave where the goblin had to let them go as promised.Hide Answer Show Answer

That was cool!
and i was thinking snake, just because they're poisonus doesn't mean they'll bite you`
i liked it.
I thought buried alive meant buried alive.
Hm, got me there! I was thinking worms-I mean, wouldn't they have to penetrate your skull?
I agree with Maria, but I like your answer better!
Why "use dynamite or a magic spell to bury them". Just tie them up with a good old rope and shovel dirt over them. Alternatively, whack'em over the head with the shovel and get shoveling, they're alive but unconscious.
Impossible to bury with a shovel - give me a break.

i agree with jimbo
good job!
i thought it was the worms cuz worms can't penetrate the skull or eat brains..
You guys, when you think worms eating your brains, you're thinking getting into your skull.
There are other openings. Ears. Noses. Mouths. Eyes (I know, gross, but it'd probably work).

I agree with jtb. The goblin never said they wouldn't be unconscious. If he had done that, there wouldn't be a good way.
What about the poisonous snakes? "Poisonous" means something will kill you if you bite it, while "venomous" means something will kill you if it bites you. Most people say "poisonous snake" when they mean "venomous snake" (although truly poisonous snakes do exist). Assuming some clever word thing was being done here, maybe the pit full of poisonous snakes would be the safest option, because as long as the children don't eat the snakes, they should be fine.
