Brain Teasers
Birds in Space
When NASA was considering animals to experiment on in space, they picked birds, because of the low maintenance. Although NASA was aware that most birds require gravity to swallow and would not survive the weightlessness of space, they did manage to find two types of bird that would survive the trip.
Which birds were they?
Which birds were they?
Answer
Doves and Pigeons.Since most birds swallow water by tilting their heads back and using gravity to let the water run down their throats, they would dehydrate in space. Doves and Pigeons are the only birds that can drink without tilting their heads back.

According to the Dove Page (http://www.dovepage.com/keeping/), and they should know, the main difference between the two is that larger birds tend to be called pigeons, and smaller birds tend to be called doves.
Great trivia! Thanks for posting the difference between the two.... My nieghbor and I were debating between the two the other day
I did not know birds even went to space.
I guessed Penguins--because I figured since they were swimmers they might swallow differently, and I guessed humming birds. Boy was I wrong. Tell me I at least had good guesses PLEASE?
nice one ; wouldn't have guessed it in a hundred years thou
Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting...Please submit more like this!!!
If a carrier pigeon goes into space, what would it say?
I think people thought it was boring because it is not a teaser. It is an informative piece of information. I tried to figure out why we should know this.
I thought hummingbirds... I've never seen them tilt their heads back at a hummingbird feeder.
Flew right over my head. Learned something today.
As pure trivia, good. I went another direction, e.g. Phoenix (mythology& bird) or Cygnus (constellation&swan), which were names of NASA craft.
