Colored Squares
Consider a grid of size 4 x 4 (i.e. sixteen squares), where all squares should get a color. The colored grid should meet the following conditions:
4 squares should be colored blue,
3 squares should be colored red,
3 squares should be colored white,
3 squares should be colored green,
3 squares should be colored yellow, and
How can these squares be arranged so that no color appears more than once in any horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line?

Yeah braindead, that is another way of saying the same solution. I doesn't really matter which color you put in the top left slot as long as you follow the same patern it will be right.
Come on, tell me what you think. I am of the opinion that the Comment box is way under used. If you like it great, If you hate it, tell me. So I can fix the problem in future puzzles. Personally I think more feedback both good and bad can only help the website produce more fun for all. Even a little trash talkin' can be fun.
Good one!
you want trash talk? you spelled pattern "patern". Ha!
ya i didn't even try for this one...... just not my type of thing here
Why do you always say that, ryaneeday? and also, you never asked a question in the teaser!
Beyond the over generalization of "you NEVER" sometimes I don't feel that a question has to be asked. The implied nature of the puzzle begs for a solution whether I end a sentence with a question mark or not. Very rarely if ever have I put at puzzle out that defies logical answers. And I only use "Very Rarely" because I wouldn't want to say never.
you didn't answer the first question
Well Mogmatt, if you are refering to the the comment I make very early after a puzzle being accepted about the underuse of the comment box, The reason I say that or used to say that every time was that when I first started submitting puzzles, noone was commenting, I was trying to open up a dialog. Now I just give an e'mail address out so people can direct there comments directly towards me. Try it and see.... [email protected]

just wondering is there a harder version where you have jsut four different colours but basically the same thing...i cant see that there is but just wondered if anyone knew! Good teaser though. not so random that you cant work it out but not too easy that you can do it mentally or in 2 seconds!
To respond to tiggy, no, there is no way to do
a 4x4 square with only 4 colors. There are only
2 ways to position the 4 blue squares in the original
problem, and neither of them has any of the squares in
a corner, so there is no way to cover the corners if you
have 4 colors with 4 squares each. But you can do a 5x5
square with 5 colors, 5 squares each.

This is a very fun puzzle that is best solved by looking at the first clue: 4 blues. Since you have 4 rows, there are only two possible ways to get 4 Blues arranged without repeating in a row or diagonal line, and since the arrangement is symmetrical, it doesn't matter which way you put them.
After placing the 4 Blue squares, the rest falls into place naturally by looking for ways to get a single color arranged in the grid. The pattern appears after some thinking, and you really can't go wrong by tossing in any combination for the first row - the pattern will always be the same. There are at least eight ways to solve it: 2 (for each blue position) x 4 (for each non-blue color).
Very good!
