Five friends (one is Thomas) decided one day to take their children to the park for a picnic. Can you determine what the parents' first and last names are, who they brought to the picnic, how old the child was and how many children each parent has.
Parents: Marion, Thomas, Andrew, Emily, Christina
Surnames: Williams, Drew, Matthew, Edwards, Thompson
Number of Children: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Children: Suzanne, Louanne, Peter, Stephanie, Walter
Ages: 5, 7, 17, 8, 15
1. Mrs. Edwards's child was not Louanne (who was not 8). Stephanie did not have 4 siblings.
2. Stephanie was not the oldest child, but was no more than 3 years older than the youngest child. Walter Drew was not Thomas's child.
3. Christina's daughter was not the oldest, but was older than at least one other child. The youngest child was not surnamed Matthew.
4. The oldest child was upset because she was expected to help the parents watch the younger children. Luckily, her friend Louanne was there to keep her company.
5. Andrew (who was either surnamed Thompson or Williams) brought either Suzanne or the child who was five years old.
6. Stephanie, an only child, and her father carpooled with the Thompson family in their van. Mr. Thompson needed to drive a van because he had five children.
7. Peter was younger than Stephanie. Stephanie was ten years younger than one of the other children.
8. The five parents were Marion, Mrs. Matthew, Suzanne Thompson's father, the parent who had the eight year old child, and the parent who had only one child.
9. Emily had more children than Marion, but less children than Christina.

YAY! I'm the first to comment Great teaser, but too many assumptions. I liked the challenge though.
very nice teaser, keep them coming!!
great teaser
I didn't have to assume anything. It was all there. Fun, and I didn't have to use paper, but it took me a while.
This was hard for me, because (I later found out) I kept marking the wrong square! When I finally got it right, I no longer had to assume anything and I felt better. Pure perplexity kept me at it. Good one!
Thank you everybody for your nice comments. I'm glad you enjoyed my teaser.
Good Teaser-challenging. I liked the way you mixed up the ages in the grid.
Made me have to look twice because I naturally look at oldest to youngest.
Did you do this intentionally?

This was a fun teaser!! I had fun thinking it out!
Luckily for me, I caught the age mixup two squares into the puzzle! Great teaser scm14
Took me *forever* until I realised that "Marion" can be a female name, too!
All I could remember was that John Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison!
Lots of fun, thx!!!!

That was fun, I thought it was great!! No assumptions necessary, just lots of logic!! Yipee!
i got lucky some1 from this site told me that walter is a boy name in an earlier attempted grid...and the only marion i know is the robin hood's one, so a her she'd be...
it was a little bit hard but i did what threw me off was clue 7 the second part beacuse i had stepanine as 8 yrs old
I totally messed up! First I had to start over because of the age mix up, then I realized halfway through I had messed something up!
This is a really great one, I like having to work a little harder. I'm going back to try again. Third times a charm!

whew! Ok i got it...sorry about my outburst That was a great teaser, my brain has had a good work out tonight!
Good effort, really enjoyed the puzzle.
Whew that one took me a while, but I got it!
This one worked my brain. I had everything but the last names of 2 of the mothers. I re-read the clues at least 3 times before I finally picked up on the one that gave me the answer. Talk about a "DUH" moment! Great teaser!
That was great! It took awhile to get, but I did it. Nice job!
Not too difficult; just time-consuming in a good way. The only assumptions I can see would be the genders, but they ended up being very straightforward. Thanks for the fun teaser.
this one was really good! not too hard, but it would have been much easier if "marion" wasn't a unisex name.
All solved logically....good one
These are the best kind of puzzles! with the grid, all is solvable, no need to assume anything! Teasers like this, and ones a bit harder (with a little Process of elimination involved), are the MOST fun for me. I hope we see more on the site.
