Take a Break
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
Discovered in Africa, I spread like a tide
To become a hot staple known the world wide.
A necessity to some, a treasure to many,
I'm best enjoyed among pleasant company.
Some like me hot and some like me cold.
Some prefer mild, others only bold.
Some take me straight, while some like to savor
My essence to which has been added a flavor.
So put down your cares and sit awhile with me;
I'll send you back refreshed and full of energy.

Hint
This doesn't need a hint, but in case you peeked: I'll have a grande latte!Answer
Coffee. It was first discovered in the area of Africa now called Ethiopia. Legend has it that a goat herder observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. When he tried them himself, his energy was renewed. And the rest is history.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Fun and easy. I loved it! Going to my favourites!
As a confirmed coffee freak, I got it right away. Well written.
Really cute! I like it! You must be a genius! Do you have kids? Because if so, they must be super smart, too. Especially your daughter, if you have one.
Yes, my daughter is a genius! Thanks everyone for the comments on my first teaser!
Yay!! That was the first one I ever got!
Cute teaser, Gebbie! Easy for me, but that's just because I'm a coffee freak too.
Fun, Easy & Well Written!

Thank you, fellow Brainglers, for your comments!
Congratulations on your first!
Very simple...I was reading the daily teaser and I actually just glanced and ended up reading the second stanza (or whatever it's called) and I got it right away! Simple and fun...good job!
I didn't know that. Thanks.
Ah, a Starbuck moment to share. Thanks for teaser, something to wake up to for those that follow.
Mmmmm, coffee! Think I'll go get a cup to ponder another teaser!! Thanks for the cute riddle!
Well written. Thanks for submitting!
Nicely crafted, but easy. Thanks for the informative wording.
Well worded, fun, and easy.
Good teaser & well written, but very easy.
I got it from the title. It didn't hurt that I'm sipping on a Tim Horton's Cafe Mocha either!
Great job! Fun and easy!

Very intelligently laid out. And in a poetic nature. It was very easy for me, but it did get my mind in gear. Keep up the superb work.

At last, this is something to percolate one up with. I'm well into my espresso, but thanks for that extra caffeine rush.
I GT it ... and I'm not a coffee nut, either. Diet CKE is my "drug of choice" ...
Thanx, GebbieRose!
Thanx, GebbieRose!
Nicely written, but incredibly easy, since coffee is my beverage of choice.
WOW. I loved this teaser. I didn't get it right away, but when i read it again, i got it! Yay me! I prefer my coffee cold, and just finished up my favorite-a mint java chip frappa from Starbucks. MMMM!

Well written teaser but too easy!
Very cute teaser but i have to admit i despise coffee!
I liked this one. I was thinking 'tea' until my brain woke up and I remembered tea originated in China. Coffee, then, immediately sprang to mind.
Well done Ill have mine with cream and sugar
Could also be coffee
WOW!! The first one I got! And I don't even like coffee! YIPEE!!!
I actually meant to say chocolate... I obviously need some of both.
Not difficult (especially for a major coffee addict like me!), but very fun!
My drug of choice is a S-bucks Venti Vanilla Latte Iced or Hot (depending on the weather)...mmmmm now I want one! Thanks for the "jones"!

Mmmmm... Hot chocolate with a pinch of dried chilli... thirsty now...
Easy one but fun because of your clever wording. It passed my smile test!
I'm glad everyton else figured it out.Unfortunately, I needed the hint before the light went off.I really liked this teaser.
It could not have been chocolate. The earliest record of cacao (chocolate) use was among the Mayans in Mexico and Central America dating back some 2,600 years.
Thanks for that. I learnt something new
You should try your hand at tea now...*slurp*

Thanks for all the comments! Hmmm.... tea? Good idea
Super Easy but FUN! Thanks
I was thinking wine at first but, of course that did not probably come from africa. Good Job, I enjoyed trying to get this one too.
wow that was soo effing easy =]
Sometimes an easy puzzle is still fun; this was a great example. And, being a coffee afficionado, how could I not like this? Reminded me of "The Devil's Cup",a book I highly recommend.
i'm with octavian420's first thought. but i never thought of coffee
well worded, nice first effort
Had I just paid attention to the title I might have stood a chance of getting your nicely worded teaser. However, even tho my grandmother was a Mrs. Olson, you know, Folgers coffee lady, I don't partake so this one became luke warm for me in the answer department. Good job - made me feel kind of like the morning after the night before - duh!
i'm surprised that i found this one easy!!!
Great riddle!
Oh muh geez

Well written, although the answer was quite obvious.
Thank you, duh-head. We never know how to think about anything until you tell us.
Well-written and fun!
I have never had coffee, but I still figured it out.
Yes, that's right, I don't know what coffee tastes like, I just figure it tastes like it smells.

auntiesis, that is amazing that you've never had a cup of coffee! Good for you! Despite what health experts are now trying to say, it has never really been good for the body, esp the heart.
Great teaser though. I always thought it was discovered in S. America for some reason.

Thanks, everyone!
Easy peasy! Didn't even have to think.
I thought it was malaria after reading the first line. However, I soon realised the answer.
Though I DESPISE coffee, I found this teaser quite easy to figure out. I recall reading the story about the sheep herder many years ago as an example of the definition of the word gamboling.
Nice one
enjoyed it as I sip my own! thanks!
Just my opinion... It is too easy for a hint LOL
It was an interesting fact. I needed the hint to get it. I did though. Didn't know it came from Africa. Nice quiz
Being kind of fond of the beverage myself this was very easy. Think I'll go pour me another cup.
a bit too easy, but got me up!
EBOLA!
Ok, sorry.
Ok, sorry.
I actually prefer tea, but since most of my friends are coffee drinkers, I chose that as the answer. Cute Teaser!
Other than HABS searching her lexicography for obscure words ('gamboling') with which to impress us, this TOTD offering has little of Braingle-worthy content.
If you wish to REALLY get involved with the health of Braingle then read our offering in the comments on yesterday's TOTD.

Everyone found this easy. I am the exception. I knew it was either coffee or tea, and I went with tea. Yes, I associate tea with China, but I did not know where either originated. I liked the hint. I should have checked that before the answer!
I liked the way this was written. Good meter and rhyme, even the match of many with compenny made me laugh. I like riddles that are cleverly written even if they are transparently easy to solve. I also like a bit of trivia info added in. So, this one works for me.

Fun, entertaining and easy teaser. The title gave it away for me because it instantly got me to think of "coffee break".
