Brain Teasers
Valiant Crew
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
We cannot mount a great attack
Unless we somehow reach the back
We have a unique travel style
Sir, may I ride with you awhile?
We don't get in each other's way
Since on our own colour we stay
We start the clash on either side
Beware, our reach is far and wide
Her varied moves make her scary
All around her should be wary
Most important among the crew
If he falls, your struggle is through
What are we?
Unless we somehow reach the back

Answer
chess pieceslines 1-2: The pawns are weak pieces, but can be exchanged for a stronger piece if they reach the farthest rank opposite your end of the chessboard.
lines 3-4: The knights move in a unique way, not possible by the queen. "Sir" is the title of a knight.
lines 5-6: The bishops move diagonally, always staying on their respective colours, so they never interfere with each other.
lines 7-8: The rooks are positioned "on either side" of the chessboard at the start of the game. Their reach is "far and wide" i.e. they can move straight up and down (along files) and straight from side to side (along ranks).
lines 9-10: The queen is the most powerful piece, having the greatest number of ways to move, therefore posing a greater threat than the other pieces.
lines 11-12: The king is the "most important" piece of all. If it "falls" (i.e. if it is checkmated by your opponent), then "your struggle is through" since you have lost the game at this point.
