Congrats to bradon, Smithy, and Shadows on becoming new GD mods

Well said, it's nice to see people that took enough interest in the site to apply to become mods, and it's great that they were chosen.

That said, maybe this new input will change the way the forums are currently being run, that is, according to the whims of a few people whom the mods listen to while ignoring everybody else's opinions.

That's a lot of deletions and edits! What's going on here?

Edit: LOL, I must have forgotten to hit the current page. The page I was responding to had 2 deletions and 2 mod edits. And I'm only talking about the last 4 or 5 postings.

Let me ask a new question here:

What's the purpose of this topic? Is it just to give people a place to post questions, so that they can be ignored?

I posted my last topic over 5 days ago (just check the time stamp), and so far haven't gotten so much as a "We hear you, we'll look into it and get back to you soon." No answer here, none via PM, nothing... Just a great wall of silence...

Is there even a point in having a topic to ask questions, when it seems that all one is doing is speaking into an empty void? Could you guys at least give us the decency to let us know you've seen this topic, and that we're not being completely ignored when we post in here??

ALL of the mods who are listed in the 1st topic have been online, and in Braingle several times in the last 5 days. Now, I know it might take a few days for you guys to discuss our questions and get us an "official" answer, but just why the heck can't someone do the courtesy of letting us know we've been heard?

I mean, Heck! I can't think of ANY other "customer service" type business, model, or interaction that I've ever had where the company/people-in-charge didn't at least send me a "Thank you for your concern, we're looking into the issue" type response so that I didn't feel completely ignored.

A day, or even two -- perhaps three -- I could see; especially if no one had logged in, in that time to address the concern (or if it'd been during a Holiday season like Christmas). BUT, to just leave people with a complete wall of silence for the biggest majority of a week is just rude and inexcusable.

IF you mods send one of us users a PM, question, or comment, are we allowed to just ignore you for the next week or so? I don't think so. You expect us to respond, comply, and acknowledge your communications with us as soon as you give them. However, when we have questions, concerns, or feedback for you, we're just "Put on hold" -- without someone even being decent enough to LET US KNOW WE'RE ON HOLD!!

Can you honestly say, that THIS type of behavior is what you think is "family friendly"? Do you tend to just ignore your family "offline", whenever they ask a question for you as well?

"Hey Ma, Pa, Can I go over to Joe's for a Birthday Party this weekend?"

(chirp chirp)

"Ma? Pa?

(chirp chirp)

"MA! PA!!"

(chirp chirp)

"Are you guys DEAD? WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!! Quick, someone call 911!"

I think this applies to our concerns about the LGBT topic as well, which seems to have stopped being discussed by the mods in the hope that we'll forget about it and drop the subject.
If that's the case, think again.
If that's not the case and you really are thinking about the subject, maybe we could get updates.

On another note, it seems to me from reading the first posts in this topic, that the same issues brought up there are still being brought up, and nothing can be settled.
I don't have a suggetsion for this, but it's just something to think about.

How would you know what's being discussed and what is not being discussed in the moderator forum?

Excuse me, but I said "If that's the case, think again. If that's not the case and you really are thinking about the subject, maybe we could get updates."

I'm not saying I know what's being discussed or not. My points still stand. Is it being discussed? if so, could we get updates?
If not, well.....

We are discussing every issue that needs to be discussed. Determining what needs to be done, how it needs to be done, and so forth, takes time. Especially when moderators are never logged on and ready to discuss the issues, etc. at the same time. It is not necessary to keep the general public 'informed' as to what has been discussed so far. Simply because final decisions have not been made yet. I hope you understand, that we are taking these issues seriously, and no decision will be made without thorough examination.

I have just read the "Statement from the Moderators" topic and can certainly abide by all of the rules stated there. I am glad that the moderators are trying to reach out to the users.

My only question, however, is why the "LGBT" topic is still locked. As I've noted before, I do realise that even if unlocked, the discussions that were previously held might not return as some things need the proper time and place to be discussed in the same manner. But still, as the statement seemed to pose no reason why that sort of topic shouldn't be allowed, I would ask that it please be unlocked so that if anyone wants to discuss the issues in there, those that they are freely allowed to discuss when using correct discretion, they may be able to without having to make a new topic.

Thank you mods for the judgment.

LR, I just hadn't had the time to unlock that topic yet. It has now been unlocked and is open for discussion.

I was searching the forum rules and I can't find anything about warnings. Can someone give me a quick explanation? What causes them, and what happens after you get a few?

I just have a question about something I just saw. Someone started a topic about "Riddles within Riddles" or something like that, and it was about a website that has riddles to solve. It was locked with a message saying "Sorry but this is considered spam." I thought it was now allowed to post links? Is that not the case? If it's not, I hope the user who posted it had it explained to them that it was "considered spam" because of posting a link? I'm just asking because if I'd posted that, I wouldn't know why it had been "considered spam". Sorry if this is in the rules. I'll try to find it, but it's hard for me to read so I just wanted to ask here.

Shawn, Per forum rules, Spam is the abuse of our forums by posting advertisements, links to unrelated websites, affiliate or referral links, or in general any post that is off-topic and is designed to benefit only yourself. Spamming is not allowed.

The link in question in my opinion was basically an advertisement for another website. Forum rules can be found here.

OK, I see, thanks Bobbi. I'm legally blind, and it's really tiring for me to read so I appreciate you answering here so I didn't have to read through all the rules.

I declare that we should step outside the box. Whatever that means. How can you mods, as sworn to protect this forum, enact the change we need? How can you take us outside the box?
