There's a moment when you put just a tiny bit of wasabi on your sushi and then bite into it, realizing that it was just a tiny bit too much and suddenly your sinuses are WIDE OPEN and your eyes are watering.

That's an awesome moment.

I like wasabi because it's hot but it doesn't set your tongue on fire like some peppers so.

Interestingly, as I watched an amazing documentary on sushi I learned that wasabi was actually introduced as part of the Asian cuisine because it kills ALL harmful bacteria that may be present in the raw fish. So wasabi not only adds to the sushi experience through its flavor, but also as a very powerful and effective health benefit.

Now you know.

Now I know I have learned more than I probably need to know to be happy.

In 75' our ship went to Pusan, Korea (now known as Busan) and we were told to NOT eat the sushi... while there the ship's religious officer set up a full day's tour of the local memorial site of Buddha and I admit, it was impressive. I guess I will burn in ""heck"" because I took a picture of the giant Buddha in the one building, and still have those pictures in my photo album. I still remember the mounds of grass where royality are buried.

At the end of the day the 75 or so sailors from my ship were treated to a giant traditional meal... remember the warning and remember that our ship's chaplain set this up. I guess we figured he was taking care of us... oh yeah, he truly did.

It was the next day that we pulled out of port and headed back to Japan. That night, I had the midnight watch on the forward switchboard...and nature was playing tricks on me all afternoon. You can not call in sick, it almost takes an act of God for that to happen, only ONE time during my time on this ship was I allowed a one time pass from duty at sea, and that was after my chief argued to my division officer that he witnessed my accident and knew I was not faking a bad back. One time, one day, back was out for three... you figure what happened those other two days.

Anyway, this watch does not allow for you to leave your post... but I could not raise anyone in my department on the phone - it was after midnight. I looked at the engineering officer on watch and asked what could I do... he looked at me and simply asked, "you were on the Chaplains tour too, weren't you?" I said yes. He said go fast, top of the stairs is a head. I will not forget that little bit of kindness after what otherwise was a great tour. Yeah, TMI... but life does expect these simple turn of events when wasabi was not part of the cuisine! Both of us would have been in trouble if the ship's power went out due to the lack of someone watching it... so glad nothing happened.

I am back on braingle after a teeny tiny break.

Every problem can be solved with a trick but finding that trick itself needs another trick.

I dreamed of braingle last night, its sparse white background and blue text boxes. There were some who still tread upon its shores, like weary soldiers remaining at their post long after the battle's end...

I seldom dream... or at least seldom remember any dream I had. Most of the time it is the moment before I wake that I am still laying there and thinking I really want to sleep than get up that I think of strange things.
